I am looking to put a Translator on my car. Does any body run a Gen 2? Is there alot of difference between them. If I get the Gen 2 I would also get the Inovate LC1 Wideband.

Yes there is a MASSIVE difference between them. There is no comparison. The original translator and trans + are pretty rudimentary devices that only allow you to add an LS1/LT1 maf and give you very minimal tuning options.

The Gen 2 on the other hand is essentially a piggy back engine management system rivaling systems that cost thousands more. To make use of its features you'll need the wideband, and an extender extreme G chip. With this combination you'll have a powerful set of tuning tools that can grow substantially to meet your needs. No I'm not paid by the translator people, I just happen to own a Gen2 and I think its awesome. I have it controlling my WOT afrs perfectly, timing all the way up the rpm band, I can tune on the fly, I even have a completely automated nitrous system that is controlled by the Gen 2 to spool my turbo.

The one caveat to all this is that if you add up the cost of the chip, the gen 2, and the wideband, you may find that its worth it to you to spend a few extra hundred dollars one one of the lower end aftermarket engine management systems. I haven't sat down and done the math but off hand I would figure for 500 bux more you could get yourself into an older FAST system or something of that nature. This is pure speculation though, do your own research.

Pablo

I bought a used Fast system @ BG in 2005 for 1000 bucks with anew wide band 02 sensor. I would guess now that the XFI systems are mainstream the older fast-dfi units would be in the 500-800 dollars range. I'm having my fast updated to the SFI software by craig smith and i'm back to drivignm on the stock ecm with a bailey Extremme chip with a translator and 4 inch maf and i'll tell ya this thing sucks compared to the tune i have for the fast system.

help if you can

if you will give bob bailey or mike licht a cal @ full throttle you can get a update chip for the translator. i think it's @ a version 6.22 now mine used to have a version 1.1 beta it's so old but works great.

I had a Gen2 and matching chip in my car, didn't work so well. I went back to a T+ and newest TurboTweak chip and the car runs great.

I dont know how you can say the Gen2 didn't work well. Its configurable for nearly any type of setup. If it didnt work well its because you werent adept at tuning it. The options are almost limitless.

+2 on that

I can say the Gen2 didn't work well on my car because it didn't. I did not say the Gen2 is a bad product. It's a great product. I had problems with my G chip 2 different times and my Gen2 would not work with the TT chip I had either. I even sent my chip back to Eric and he tried in his own car with his Gen2 and it worked fine. So yes, it didn't work well. I'm not a tuning guru but I do know how to tune my combo. My car works better with the T+ and TT chip. Thanks for your wrong opinion of my car.

So what specifically was the problem? If it worked in eric's car then its not working in yours it's either a tuning issue or some kind of equipment malfunction.

If you are familiar with the gen II and extreme g chip you can essentially tune for any engine combination.

I can understand that a simple chip swap is easier than actually tuning though. Get a chip thats pretty close to what you need and then you dont have to worry about load ranges, wot afr's, %gain % lean limit/rich limit, etc. Though the chip and T + aren't quite as easily manipulated or configurable. I guess not everyone wants options or absolute control.

I never found out what the exact problem was. I had to send the chip back to Full Throttle for a malfunction. They fixed that problem. The car would run very rich even on a lean tune. I swapped out the Gen2 and G chip for a T+ and TT chip and the car purrs like a kitten. It made 516rwhp and 557rwt on KDK's dyno. The car is tuned good. I'm not knocking the Gen2, it just didn't work for me.
