I am getting ready to pull my tranny out for a rebuild. I have read the articles on gnttype.org but is there anything else that I should be aware of when taking out my trans? Do I have to drain the fluid when I take it out? This is my first time taking out a trans so any helpful hints are much appreciated!

Be sure to note where the dipstick tube goes. Take a picture if
you can. Bag and label all bolts. Tranny will be hard to pull from
under car if pan is less than 19" from floor. This has been posted many times in detail on thirdgen.org. :)

I'll tell you this. It is easier than you think.
Just be sure to get the car WAY up. Higher the better. Double up on jack stands just to be safe. Use a REALLY long extension (2-3ft long) and a Univ end to get the top bolts...makes it easy.
Have a nice wide & flat piece of wood, put it between the pan and jack stand.
Friends are nice to have around as well...I've done it many times by my self but help is always nice.
