guys, i know i havent been posting here much, but i've loved trying to help you out, trying to answer your questions, trying to help where i could, etc... since 1998.... but, i'm out.

the easy 12's havent come yet because i'm 22 and i don't have enough disposable income like you and apparently everyone else on this board do.

i'm 22 and i'm in college, i'm sorry if i dont have the time to tune my piece of **** and also go to college and earn an education, not to mention, keep up with retarded people stealing my car and breaking into it 3 times.

please forgive me that i have gone mid 13's with a chip, a cold air intake, and a 2600 converter.... everything else stock....

while nearly everyone else has struggled to hit 13's with much more.... either my car that sat in a field for 8 years is just some insane FREAK of a hotair buick.... or..

obviously my experiences are just made up or something, nothing i have accomplished is possible for anyone else, i am a magician. that's the only answer, blah blah blah.

you can all do this, my car is NOT a freak, not even close, it just takes time and effort.

13.6@98mph with:
jay carter 17* chip in 87 ecm
electric fan
17psi boost
walbro 307, martone FP reg.

that's it.

i'm sorry i dont have the time or the means to go to the track every week like all of you do. i'm sorry everything i've done has been done before, yet everyone keeps asking me how to do this and that..

my car, with "just that" went mid 13s.

i put it on the dyno and made 215hp/336tq with 10psi boost, 30* false knock and an off the scale rich a/f ratio...the only reason i dynoed it in such poor condition is because a friend PAID for it.

i now have:

turbonetics stage3 cheetah in hotair housing
jay carter propane kit
and a new longblock with
comp 206 cam
trw forged pistons

that should be pretty nice... but i dont have the time to tune it and go to the track every weekend, so what do i know.

good luck in all your endeavours..... i'll refrain from posting until i actually turn up "some easy 12's"

if anyone has any questions... email me nbx23@comcast.net

until then, everyone keep in mind, "the only way to make a hotair fast is to put a new intake on it or put an intercooler on it." and "propane tanks are bomb in your trunk" and "no junkyard throttle position sensors work with hotair cars" etc, etc.

see you guys later!

take it easy,

sorry to hear that you are so affended, i have heard the same thing. I had ported everything , cam, dp, fuel ,eghuast all that crap and i only ran a 13.6 and i had plenty of people tell me i was stupid for buyinbg my car or that all these hot air guys had gone faster with much less. well im sure they did but i was learning about these cars ,drag racing and tuning , and having a good time doing so even if i was really slow and guys were hammering on me for it,
i am aloso 22 and only go to the track like 4 times a year dont take it to seariously its just the internet and people somtimes cant tell how serioulsy they are going to piss someone off.
dont mean to be dr. phill its just that there are few unuff people that post on this forum we all need help at some point the more people on hear the better for all of us

I am 24.
I don't have a disposable income.
I have never been to the track with my car.
I have a fulltime job, wife(stays at home, no job), & two kids(4yrs old & 3 months). Any form of a disposable income that I did have is gone!! :D
Before I bought this car or came on this board I knew absolutly nothing about cars, especially turbo buicks.
I think pro-pain is cool as hell.
I get about 3 hours a week at most to work on my and my car should "have 13's handed to it" or "12's easy" or "why did you buy a hot air" or "you have no idea what your doing"(of course I don't know what I am doing, A-hole). So, when I finally do go to the track for the first time and run a 13.7 in quarter mile with all that I have into this car.............I don't give a shat what anyone says, its MY car and I did all the work to it, never been to a shop since I have owned it!! Thats what matters to me most. I have struggled, sweat, bleed over this damn piece of shat and one or two A-holes on this board are not going to run me away from all the good guys that have helped me get this far. I just can't believe that you would walk away so easily!!
Nick:cool:

I am in the same situation of no disposable income and no time to work on the car myself. I am envious of the both of you for getting into the mid 13's. This is the only goal I have for my car since I have no real desire to race the car. I just love to drive around watch all the heads turn as I pass on by! I am around a 14.0 and by the end of next year I will reach my goal. Thanks-Brad

Let's face it people ............
VERY few on these boards have disposable income.
The ones that DID have that, no longer have it after getting into these bricks!
If we did have the Disposable Income, these cars would NOT be daily drivers right? Would a 911 Turbo "on the side" be nice? H*** YEAH!

Nick,
Hate to see you go brother.
I applaud your efforts and persistence! I KNOW what college life is like.
Grease your feathers and let the rain roll off your back.

Read my sig ............ :D

Nick B.,
Don't let the off color comments get to you , it's just the internet. I for one have great respect for your accomplishments with so few mods, and I am sure that many others do as well.

Mike

Why is everybody so thin skinned around hear? The only point I was leading to is that there are many beginners coming on this board every month and many of them already have a false sense of the differences of what a modded 84-85 will do and what a modded 86-87 will do. I just don't what to blurr there expectations of what performance they will have after doing the same basic mods that some of our intercooled brothers have done. I've heard the same comments from many members in this forum (not saying any names) that may be misleading to some junior members. Like "should be easy 12's" or "has 12's in it" or "12 second mods". Even I have been guilty of it myself. But at least I can say with a best of 13.30's @ 104mph with a 2.0 60ft my trap speed says it's 12 second capable without alky. And with less that 1500.00 in upgrades. Thats not much of a disposible income. I don't get to the track as much as would like either, it's kind of hard with a real job, a mortgage, car note, kids and 140 mile round trip drive. This site is supposed to be fun and informative, so can't we have both.

TTYPE84 QUIT BEING THE WHINEY SPOILED COLLEGE BRAT AND STAY, PLEASE!!!

Hey nick!!!!! DONT GO!!!! I NEED YOU!!!!!!! lol...Nick!!!!!!

I am 23. I have had a hot air for exactly 5 years....out of those 5 years, how many times have I driven it?

How many of you have seen my buick run?

The answer is ZERO!!!!

Why may you ask?

WEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLL:

in 2000, I got a hot tip about a GN in my town for cheap. I was hard up on cash, and my 86 regal (which got me hooked on GN's), just got totalled.....so.....I looked at the GN...it was actually a t-type which was painted black and had a few emblems mis-matched, but it was complete.....

So...i bought it for 2300....smoking a little, but was fast as hell!!! I brought it to the track just three days later, it ran 13.89 with a chip, a ported exhaust elbow, high octane, BFG's, ajf fpr, and some other little things that slip my mind.....'

I was a freshman in college (paying for college myself)

In 2001, just 2 months after buying that car, and only driving it about 10 times, I found out the hard way that the trans was in bad shape....in fact, my car rolled down a driveway and the driverside door got folded to the front fender!!!

So...up on blocks she went, and from there it all wend down hill. I dropped the tranny, and it was cooked, broke and caput.

So...For ****s and giggles, I dropped the oil pan, and boom...a ton of metal shavings dropped on me. The crank was wiped, the turbo was fried, and one piston was practically oval shaped....I had no idea how any of this could happen in the 10 times I drove it (until i found out about knock and all).

So...with my goal of graduating college (full time), and working full time, i had to bury the buick in the garage.

I just graduated college a month ago. It took 5 years, but I graduated. I just bought some small things for the buick, but all the major work still has yet to be funded. I get married on JUNE 18th, and from there, i hope to roll the car into another garage, and get that motivation and another job to fund that motivation!!!

So...In 5 years, I have accumulated:

5 intakes
2 hoods
3 complete motors
4 turbos (one good)
6 turbo-to-intake adapters (four left)
1 rear axle
2 sets of stock headers
1 pass door
2 sets of lear interior (1 and 1/2 left)
1 86 Gn pass seat
3 sets of tail lights
2-3 bumper signals
1 transmission
1 mease 3"dp
1 ss dump pipe
1 145 mph speedo
3 clear parking lenses for front bumper
1 stock up-pipe leaking
1 atr up-pipe
1 set poston headers
3 sets of heads
2 cams
1 speed-pro cam

lots of chrome and the list can be a lot longer...but I am tired.

Is any of this for sale? not yet....but very soon...very soon......

So... What have I learned?

I got all these parts. I got a tuition loan for another year, and I got a ton of parts, but not enought to add up to one complete 11 sec car...not even a 15 sec car!!!!!!

So. When people say add an IC, or Propain bash, i dont hear them....They do not apply to me, because I can not afford either!

I do not get pissed anymore, when people tell me my car will never be faster than some IC cars....i dont get mad at watching the dust pile up on my car for the last 5 years.

When i go to the garage...There it is. My Hot Air Buick.

My Hot Air Buick.

Thats all. Not someone elses "faster buick", or "Nicer"....Nope.....

Just MY Hot Air Buick

So... Dont loose, dont loose connection...Keep postin, keep us up-dated, and keep that Hot Air!!!!!

John

Nick - Do not be discouraged. Alot of people try to be funny when they are not. I personally have a hot air because I like to be the underdog. I have a goal of 11.99 and at 13.7 so far I am still a ways away from the goal. (Yes, I do have an 87, but that is the wifes GN, she rubs it in that her car is faster than mine.) Most of us here do not have disposeable income, I too am one of them. I work full time (50 hours per week), go to school full time (will finally have a bachelors degree at the end of this year, it has only taken 15 years, then I start on the MBA), have a wife (she stays at home with the two kids, 2 and 5), a car payment, and a mortgage. I have a little jump on you since I am 32, but I have had the 85 for four years now and the 87 for one year. I had an 85 GN before when I was 20 and had to get rid of it at 23 because I could not afford it and needed reliable transportation for work.

Nick, the main thought here is that it just takes time. Be patient and continue to provide information, do not let the nay sayers get you down. ;)

Hey Nick,
Like all the other guys have said, don't throw in the towel, just give it more time, who cares if it takes alot more time than others or who's car is faster than who's, we all have our own financial woes and troubles, but doesn't mean that we can't continue to keep the dream alive, hey for the past 2 years or so since i bought my '84 GN, all i have been doing is buying parts, reseaching, asking questions, helping anyone out, if i can and just learning more and more about these cars. At first i really didn't know the difference between the Hot-Air and the Intercooled GNs and guess what, i'm pretty sure that i'm the only Hot-Air GN in our car club, i know the guys are always telling me to save my money or sell it and get a Intercooled GN, i have all the respects for them, cause if it wasn't for them i'd still be lost and confused and they have helped me out alot, but that just takes the fun out of it, i love a challenge, like being the underdog, but you know what hey its my GN and the only person i have to challenge is myself, and i'm just having fun at the sametime, but atleast i can say that i have a Grand National (1 of 2000 made)

Mahalo,
Joe C.

dude,
im not rich i work full time,my wife stays home and takes care of 2 girls 2 & 4 and 3 dogs.i have 2 car payments a mortgage and MY HOTAIR CAR to fund not because its fast because it hasnt run in 2 yrs!but because im having fun the 3 or 4 nights a MONTH i can go out in the garage and work on it.its not about what the other guy wants or thinks you need its about what YOU think you need or want.
lifes a b$tch, just dont let some petty sh*t get you down!!!!

just my 2 cents

keith

I am staying Hot Air forever. My 2005 budget is shot becuase I have pay for my CAT to be installed in order to pass emissions, hook up my temp. gauge, and install all walbro 340 fuel pump. Take your time and be patient. Brad

I've always liked being different, why dance to the beat of some else's drum when you create your own tune. And why worry about what others say. Who cares?? Seriously did you buy a hot air to impress someone else? Not me and I'm way older then any of you guys...
