So I plan on running a with cutouts for when I want it lout or go to the track..I remember reading on an old thread that running with the cutouts open can hurt the motor if your car is tuned for the full exhaust..Would this be the case on my car with my mods or is this only in high HP applications?

Thanks,

Donnie

IMHO, the possibility of hurting a motor comes from the tendency of a car to make more boost (due to less backpressure in the exhaust) and lean out some due to the cut-out being open. You could argue with your mostly stockish buildup that you might not have the issues as bad as someone with alot more pieces....and hence higher HP potential.... however, with the TT 5.7 chip.... it doesn't try and correct itself at WOT. I see you already have a wideband. IMHO, step up to the 6.1 chip and it will compensate for a lean condition when you open the cutout.

If you step up to the wideband controlled chip, I think it would work just fine as long as you don't run too much boost for the alky volume you are delivering.

What if I just tuned it for the open downpipe. Would I just run a little rich with it blocked off?

Yes, I guess you could do that and be fairly safe. IMHO, the wideband chip is a far superior solution to your issue.

With your current chip..... if you go to the track and tune it with the dump open on a 90 deg day..... then 2 weeks later have a nightime race setup and it be 50 deg, your tune will be real lean.... with a chip that adjusts itself (i.e. TT 6.1 wideband chip).... it will be much closer with changing temperatures.... and dump open/dump closed situations.

Maybe someone else can chime in and give an opinion.

sounds like the upgraded chip is the way to go..Why cheap out on 50-60bucks and break 3k worth of stuff lol. Thanks for the advice!

If you don't already have one, you'll also need a power logger. It is a great tuning tool for the track anyway. It has the place to hook the wideband output to so Eric's 6.1 chip knows what the wideband is reading.

Haha adding that to the list too
