Well, as I finally got my car pieced together (took about two years) to where it can be driven reliably and taken to the track, I finally was able to get Safelite out to replace my windshield (the adhesive at the top driver's side of the windshield leaks). Of course, they take a look at it, and say they found rust, so if they removed the windshield, they couldn't put a new one in. The car is from Alabama, and has no rust on it anywhere else...so naturally that leak trapped enough moisture to start rusting up there. Not enough time to have it fixed before Norwalk....so.....frustrating! :mad:
 
Mine started leaking in the same area and I'm sure that there's going to be rust on the pinch weld.
 
I'm sorry to hear that....hopefully it's an "easy" fix. My dad and I just got some air tools and a welder. Looks like I need to freshen up my skills
 
Mine had the R-83 "extreme ventilated" rear quarters when I got it, but didn't expect the rotten frame she had.:mad: My other car's a Texas car with t tops and will need floor replacement as well as T top repair. Consider yourself lucky.:p
 
Jeez, I guess I am kinda lucky. It's cool you have two of them, though! Always wanted a T Top GN just as a cruiser....
 
My opinion, How do they know how far the rust goes unless it is really obvious? Have you gotten someone else to look at it? A privately owned shop would be more forgiving I think. A windshield is not that hard to remove with the proper tool and then you can get a better look at it. I assume you are going to put in a new windshield.

Exactly....I don't think they really know how far the rust goes through...just a company policy. Yeah, i'm having a shop remove it, and if they find rust, they'll fix it and put a new windshield back in. This shop works on many older cars, I've seen their work, they know what they're doing.
 
It becomes a liability to the company . Most icar classes on glass replacement advice installers to not touch rust on the pinchwelds. If the tech where to replace the glass and in an accident the glass falls out and an injury occurs, lawyers become involved . And that is a bad thing!
 
Yeah, I understand it could cause legal issues down the road, it's just frustrating! It's not like these are the safest cars to begin with, though ;)
