I had this crazy idea this afternoon to convert my buick GN from RWD to AWD, hmmm... that would be sweet. Id prob need a 700R4 out of a GMC Scyclone.

Do you think this would be possible?

I would think anything is possible.. But isnt there a weight distribution factor? Sounds like it would be quite expensive...

If you got the $$$$ go for it..

Actually, to pull this off, you'd need to find a frame that would accept a Regal body that is built for AWD or 4WD. You would need a transfer case, forward driveshaft, front axle diff and axles. The list goes on, and on. The Sy/Ty has a torsion bar front suspension to make room for the axles. Our coil springs will not help that.

My neighbor mentioned that idea to me once, and the list started pouring through my head of what would need to be done. Not likey to happen. Sorry.

If ya try, let me know. Would love to see what/how ya did.

i wouldnt mind having the first AWD GN on the road! i'll have to talk with some auto engineers to find out how i can make it happen.

It probably could be done utilizing a 4 wheel drive S10 frame. The 2 wheel drive S Series shares many front end components with the G bodies.
You have a few considerations to keep in mind.
That being track width, ride height and making room under the vehicle for the torsion bars (as the 4 wheel drive S series are all torsion bar in the front)
It would take some major enginuity and mechanical know how and you would also be packing on a lot of weight.
You would also have to contend with using a 700r4 trans as there is no way to adapt a transfer case to a 2004r. Anything is doable with $$$ and fabrication skill.

hrm... i was hoping i could use the existing frame, but the s10 frame doesnt sound like a bad idea w a 700R4

I wanted an AWD GN too, but instead I bought a Typhoon-just as good :)
