i once remember a board member having a NHRA legal stock eliminator turbo buick and he also had a pic of it posted, said he was putting it back on the streets, i think it was 57loboy maybe, any pics of this car or other pics of NHRA legal stock/super stock turbo buicks would be great( please no pics of John Gallina's car, not to step on any toes but i don't consider it a "real" stock/super stocker, it was basically a comp elimantor/modified car that nhra ended up putting those types of cars and many others in super stock), any response to this thread would be greatly appreciated. would also like any input of some of the "problems" of running a turbo buick at nhra from those of you who have had experience doing so.thanks in advance.

Yep, that's me - I have Joe Garbarine's old car that ran in that class with a hotair turbo setup at the time. He competed in the NJ/PA area from what I understand. I have a couple of pics (DS and interior view) from when I bought it in PA. I also have 4 pics of the car when I got it home. Will post up the pics tonight...
I've never raced so I can't help you there (though Otto suggested I start by running my Suburban at the upcoming EFI event in NJ!)

Gee - I DID just have the encoder motor/actuator replaced in the Suburban and it sure is shifting better now! Then again, the odo is past 36k so if I blow it up, it's now on my nickel!

Here are some pics of what my GN looked like when I bought it and when I got it home...Pics of the interior are from when it was still at Kirban's - can't see the 6-point rollcage that was in it at the time though.

Here's some background on the car as I've gotten a couple PMs about it: Car has 17.8k miles on it now, I bought it with 17.7k. Original owner bought it new, drove it on the street for some time and then went racing with it. Pretty much parked it for several years in a warehouse before I got it in 12/05. I am the second owner. Car has CS2, PW, tilt, defrost, G80 rear, manual PS mirror, AM/FM/cass/EQ, but no PL or Pseats or trunk.
According to Mrs Kenny Duttweiler, the engine in it was built in April '99 with the following: JE pistons fitted for 3.840 bore, stock rods, ARP 3/8" rod bolts, Competition Cams hydraulic 232-232 cam, head volume of 47cc, Isky valve springs w/106psi seat pressure, 1.740 exh & 1.730 intake valves, Weldon oil pump, Turbonetics T3BB turbo and a few other things. The intake/etc was all set up as 84-85 hot air style, no intercooler but kept the 86-87 electronics w/no AC or heater core. Car is now back to 86-87 intake, turbo, intercooler, etc.
Transmission is an Art Carr unit, originally w/non-lockup 4K stall Art Carr 9" convertor modified by Dynamic Convertors in Newark, DE. I've since converted the tranny back to a lock-up with a Pat's 2800 stall convertor (thanks Otto!!!) but otherwise tranny remains as it was built.
The strengthened 8.5 rear (4.10 gears, spool, Ford brakes, etc) was sold and I have a stock G80 3.42 rear in it now. Has had a bunch of other stuff done to it - Powermaster removed and converted to vaccum, extra trans cooler and extra vaccum reservoir, all body bushings have been replaced with metal pucks, etc.
Car ran an 11.03 at Atco in April 2002 and according to the original owner, he used to launch the car with 20lbs of boost...not bad for a "hot air" car!

( please no pics of John Gallina's car, not to step on any toes but i don't consider it a "real" stock/super stocker, it was basically a comp elimantor/modified car that nhra ended up putting those types of cars and many others in super stock)
that was his black car. marka's white car was run in efi/automatic. is was a stock car with a cage. and set up to run hot air and intercooled class's. i drove it the last 2 yrs. for the gallina's before they retired.

why did they quit running the stocker? ( other than just retiring)

when they retired they sold all of the cars and thought they were done with racing. after a few years john got the bug again. lucky for me!!
