Turbo downpipe puck broke off. I have questions ??

After 10 runs or so at the track the car went from 24psi to 12psi right at the end of the run. The wastegate puck had broken internally and is in the 1 of the flowmasters. Took the downpipe off and the puck was completely off the shaft and not sure why it failed here are a couple pictures . I ordered a new puck. i have a few questions

1. anybody know why it failed? anybody else have this problem?
2. what are the best bolts to use to bolt the downpipe to turbo.. arp stainless? or grade 8 ?
3. what is the best sealant to use?

Some say flowmasters are not good turbo motor mufflers because the chamber design or baffles inside of them cant move the exhaust pressure out fast enuf like a "straight thru style muffler" can so mayb this contributed to your puck issues.. Just some thoughts

Thats a good point. I will try to run the car next time with the new dump pipe uncapped. It also looks like where the puck broke off the shaft may have been not enough weld penetration. Im not sure why they only weld the one side of the shaft and not both. I think i might have to weld the other side for insurance. [/ATTACH]View attachment 203198View attachment 203204

Make sure u look at it before u install it. Both from rjc. One on the left
Guess they got a bad batch
And the weld. Well that's a nother story.

I've seen it before. I chalk it up to a bad weld.

Grade 8 bolts are best IMO. Preferably allen head.

High temp copper RTV on the flange. Just a skim coat.

Ideally you would re surface the flange on a belt sander while the pipe is out.

I've seen worse. I would trust the one on the left. Hope that's the straight one.

There is hardly any weld on the rod. That's why they break. I would re weld that.

I had welded the shaft on the other side as well for insurance.
