My 86 GN is mostly stock except for hotwire kit,Walboro fuel pump,60# injectors,2 1/2 Pypes exhaust,3" downpipe.
My question is there an upgrade turbo that will give me more power than a stock turbo with alky? I don't want to add alky,as the stock turbo has 75K miles on it,so I'd MUCH rather get an upgrade turbo.

no,there isn't.your stock turbo buick will go faster with more boost which the alky will allow you to run,vs just bolting up a bigger turbo and still being limited to lower boost numbers because of lack of octane.ex a stock turbo with 23psi and alky will smoke the same car with a bigger turbo running only 15psi.

My friend has run the stock turbo down to 11.8s in a lightweight. Adding alky will allow much more boost to be added. I'd forget the turbo for now and do the alky kit. People have a misconception that the stock turbo is a limiting factor to get into the low 12s. It's not. Do all the nessassary upgrades needed to run the number you want b/f looking at turbos. Plenty of money to be spent on the peripherals b/f a turbo. Don't forget an upgrade to the tranny will be rear it's head at some point too. Oh, and that bigger turbo is going to need some stall so add a coverter to you shopping list. Pushing more air through the engine with a bigger turbo is going to require fuel that can will not detonate. If you want to run 100ul all the time or go to leaded race gas then go for it. Either way you are going to pay to go fast.

No, the power comes from boost and timing. If you were to bolt on a Te44, Ta49, or 60mm turbo with the same boost level and timing, you would not make more power than the stock turbo'd alky injected car. The alky car will run more boost and timing.

mark im runnin a 6262bb with alchy and some other mods bout 25 psi and live a little south of kc i could take ya for a spin sometime

If I'd install alky would a turbo listed 44,49 or 60 be a good thing to install rather than my 73K mile stock turbo. I would get Eric to burn the desired chip which would give more timing along with setting of more boost?

Then why do you want to replace it so badly? The turbo will be good for another 50k+ Miles.

If you'd do the alky and any one of those turbos your car would really wake up but your probably going to need a converter and some trans work too.

Do you have a set goal for the car? We can make this so much easier imo.

Thanks
Zack

You dont need the converter really with the 49 but when i had a 44 i had a 3000 stall and it made it a whole lot more fun.

I really don't have a "goal",just want a little more power. It Will NEVER be raced. It was a 1 owner car from Boise,Idaho. The previous owner as well as myself have babied the car.
Thanks for all the comments, all have given me things to think about!!!!!!

I would just add the alky now and see how you like the more boost. You'd be surprised what a stock turbo feels like with 23-25 psi
