I have a TA-49 Turbo that has more shaft play than I would like. Which company out there do any of you recomend for a rebuild? One that has a good turn around time once they receive my turbo.

Just had my 44 rebuilt got a 360 bearing and a 1 year warranty. Took it in monday at 1pm, they called at 3pm with a quote, got a call this morning saying it was done all for 275 bucks at Majestic turbo of Dallas.

Why would you pay $500-$600 to get a turbo re-built when all you likely need is new bearings? You can buy a complete re-build kit off E-Bay for about $75......and in about 1 hour you're set. If you can operate a wrench and a set of plyers you have the talent required. Get the re-build proceedure off GNTType.org Just make sure there's no impeller, housing or turbine damage before you buy the kit.

he said UPGRADE for $550. i am sure that included a new compessor wheel and housing and maybe a 360* thrust bearing. rebuilding a turbo properly is not just throwing a bearing kit at it either. the shaft has to be mic'ed so you know what size bearings to get and it has to be perfectly staight. i am also sure that he doesnt have a VSR balancer at home. it would be a waste of $75 to throw some bearings at it and have a half @$$ job. just my $.02 worth. later, jeremy

Read the re-build guide on GNTTYPE.ORG...........you don't need precision balancing equipment if you re-use the stock wheels and there is no housing damage. Of course the should be no scoring on the shafts either. If you take it apart to have a look and even if you do have to get it sent out, most vendors don't mind a "pile of parts" as long as it's all their and packaged well. If there's just a little bit of shaft play, bearings and seals will be fine.......done it lots and no problems....ever. Type "Garrett rebuild" in the E-Bay search engine, buy the T03-T04 kit and have fun. If you buy the kit and chicken out after taking the turbo apart, re-list the kit on E-Bay and take pleasure in the fact that you at least tried. Good luck. (Honestly it's not hard!)

I have rebuilt my stock turbo before and it wasn't hard. My turbo is a precision and if I can get a correct rebuild kit for it(TA-49), then I will do it myself. It just has too much play for my comfort zone, so I want to re-do it while I have my engine out at this time before it does any possible damage inside of it in the future.

Limit enginering, I never could get ahold of john, talk to chopper!!!!!!!!!! He is a great guy, the turn around time was really fast and my turbo now works perfect!!!!!!!!!! Daniel Ray
