I have an 87 GN with ported factory heads. The short block is all original including the cam. Factory headers, MAF and intake as well. Mods are: TT 6.0 chip setup for 18 psi. PTE-51 turbo. TH 3" downpipe. Flowmasters with no cat. Vigilante 3200-3400 LU converter. Custom-fabbed front-mount IC. 60lb injectors. This combo has run mid 11's (approx 118MPH)at 25psi boost, but I've since lowered the boost to 18psi and installed the TT street chip since I only want to run 93 octane. I'm not interested in installing an alky kit at this time.

I'm not sure how old the turbo is, but with the newer technology turbos out there, I'd like to hear some thoughts about what one could offer. I haven't taken the car to the track with the 18psi boost level yet, but I'm quite sure it would only run mid 12's. My goal would be to run high 11's at 18psi. I've read a few threads where folks have hit 11's with the 6262 turbos. Thoughts?

Just curious, but why no alky? If you're gonna do a new technology turbo, might as well do some new technology alky, right? As far as the turbos, a lot of people are playing with the new billet turbos. If Bison chimes in, I'm sure he can steer you towards a newer turbo that will go with your combo.

How about?

A billet wheel 5857. I just happen to have a very slightly used one that is coming off the car this weekend. It is listed in the for sale section...

I sometimes take the GN to the local car show. And when I have the hood open, the casual observer thinks it's totally stock. I like the engine compartment to be as clutter-free and original looking as possible. This is the main reason for not wanting the alky system. If I can achieve around 116 MPH at 18 psi, I'd be totally satisfied with that. I know the newer turbos are more efficient. That efficiency, in theory, should provide a few more MPH at a given boost level. I'm still running the stock cam. Going to a roller 206, in theory, should provide a few extra MPH also. Hey Bison, any comments?

At 18psi. you're probably looking at 30 HP improvement.

Even a DIY alky. kit using what you have now would net a lot more.

I'd contact a vendor or search for pictures of stealth alky. installations with kits if you are so inclined.

Over 18 psi. a new turbo might justify the cost and increase.

Do some dyno. testing for us all on the swap at 18psi. if you do it.

Sorry but the Alky will help you way more than the New Tech . turbo's will.

I have a 6262. Does not wake up till 22#'s. Therefore, you need an alky kit. Your turbo will be more efficient with the alcohol. You need boost, timing and octane to go fast. An alky kit will allow you to have all 3.

I hear ya. My turbo really gets going at around 20 psi. Perhaps a stealth alky kit would be the way to go. Thanks for your responses.
