Yup! I'm happy they are taking a hit becuase now other people can actually enjoy these cars. I think the reason they got out of hand was because Barret Jackson hype. Rich people with more money than brains.

On the other hand, a really nice TR is still going to bring good money.

I'm personally not worried about the value of my car becuase it's not going anywhere. And it's still insured for what I have into it.

The prices have been exceptionally low this year and I think alast year too...

I like that they are accessible to more people but I do not like the fact that a solid $20k+ TR is "expected" to sell for significantly less because, well, everyone else is selling them so cheap... or the market this and that...

Kinda sucks if you need to sell right now...

thats kinda where i was with my car. i was asking 23k. but i dont want to give it away.

i had several people come over and offer me mid-teens, and their reasoning was "well were in a reccession... prices on everything are down."

at that moment i decided i might just hold on to it and enjoy it for a while.

now, i am not in a posision that i need to sell the car, so i guess it doesnt really impact me as much as it may someone else.

I used to be of the mindset that I'd buy a car and keep it forever, if it was the right car (ie: a TR) However, these days, I am of the opinion that EVERYTHING is for sale. It's all about the price...

I don't need to sell but I'd consider it if the price was right. I'd like to work on other projects or to free up some cash (who couldn't use extra cash these days?) but I'm not going to give away all of my hard work, time, effort and money just because the market sucks...

I wish this economy would hurry up and turn around already

And ask if I wanted to sell my car, I was telling him no and he goes into a spill about he's u car salesmen and asks what r they worth 5-6 k. Heck for that price I'll sit on it, got @ 12 in it now and this guy is lowballing me. Told him to go find 1 as clean as my car for that. Last ur 1 was at a swap meet and wasn't that nice and had a 20k pricetag on it. I'm guessing he still owns his 20k car but it's hardcto put a price on something u love.

I suppose it's hard to put a pricetag on something you love but if the money is talking... well... I have to listen.

The big issue for me is that either people think these are Monte Carlo's and can buy them all day long for $3-$4k or they're newbies who saw fast and furious or something along those lines. I think they assume that all cars should be priced like Honda's... Heck, if a car had a $10k paint job and a $6k engine and a $2k trans and a $1k interior and who know's how much in the misc. items...Wouldn't you expect to be paying for that when you buy a car?

I've seen a few guys actually say that a fresh paint job didn't really increase the value of the car as it was still a depressed market and people should never expect to recoup what they invest into these cars or that the current market prefers original paint, yadda, yadda, yadda...

For those guys, I just tell them to find something comparable for the price.

Oh well, at least all my cars are clean and nice and I have no NEED to sell. I, too, am insured at a nice high amount (agreed value) - just in case...

i think all musclecars have gone down in price some, I own a pontiac gto judge and I look at what the asking prices are now a days for judge's and GTO's in general, the asking price is down quite a bit from a few yrs ago. I cannot comment on selling price because I dont always know what they sold for, but I doubt too many are being sold for more than the asking price

With musclecars, they have taken a beating from the priced they were getting a few years ago. I saw more than a few 1970 Chevelle SS's with the 454 go for over $100k. A friend of mine has one along with a GN he recently sold in order to buy a house. I had told him years ago to sell the Chevelle while the feeding frenzy was going on.. He said he'd never sell either car.

He recently "gave-away" is 2 owner GN with boxes of parts and books, etc. and is thinking about selling the Chevelle as well. He didn't think he'd even get $50k anymore...

During that time I tried to buy an all original 100% stock 69 Chevelle with the 396 but the owner thought it was made of solid gold... (It's a nice original car but it's sat in a garage under a pile of junk and has not been started in at least 10 years. It would need a full restoration.

I guess you have to strike while the iron's hot.

These cars are 23 years old. There value is not even started to peak yet. I still see several Regals non -turbo and v-8 driven daily. Until they are off the road, then the value will go up. When I got my 62 Chevy in 1987, it was 25 years old. Got it for 4500.00. 5 years later it was 20,000 and climbing. You still saw 60's cars being driven, so they were still common place. Its when they dissappear for 5-6 years and someone sees one and goes"WOW, I havent seen one of them in years." Then the value starts to climb. We have been lucky that the turbo cars have held their value and did not fall off like others. In the early 80's, you could have bought any HEMI car for 5000-7500. Gee what happen to them??? Add 2 more "0's" to that now. These cars are the only real collector car built in the 80's,period! Vettes from 80-89 are dirt cheap. There is no collectability to them at all. GN's will top the money tree, but the T-types will be up there. Sorta like a HEMI GTX brings more than the same body style Satallite. The GTX was a trim package, sorta like the GN is to the Regal. It will be another 5-7 years, but watch, if you sell now and cheap, you will kick your own ass like your dad did when he sold his 57 Chevy for 500 bucks and a case of beer. I have played this game for years and seen deals come and go, but as a car guy, I know when to buy and buy right. If I get my hands on another turbo car, my low mile GN will be restored and sit with my others. Waiting to make me alot of $$$ when they leave. Right now, the market says drive it, so I drive it.

I was looking at a conversion van that caught my eye one day a few weeks ago so I pulled a u-turn to look. Just for fun I said yes when they asked if I wanted to trade the "T". They offered me $4k. Let me get this straight, numbers matching zero rust garage queen 87 Turbo Limited with a new built motor (have build sheet from known engine builder with more than $4K in the motor) and new trans and your generously offering me $4K?

I laughed so hard the salesman walked off.




But seriously a car is only worth what someone will pay for it. I had an antique Caddy that I bought from an estate sale for $3K and Universal Studios wanted it for some movie. They finally hit $9K and I sold it. I miss that car and should not have sold it though.

If my GN wasn't a drift'n sideways blast to drive I'd be very upset about market prices. I haven't had this much fun since hot shoeing a Skip Barber Viper for 3 days at Limerock.

In reality I have not seen many cars that I would even consider buying over the last year if I was in the market.

You use to see a nice 9 or 10 second cars for sale every couple months or so but most who own those turn-key cars know better then to try to unload them at this time.

If you want a turn-key mint TR you can bet that that your gonna pay top dollar for one primarily because the people owning them do not NEED to sell.
