What is the largest size turbo you guys all recommend in a stock block? I know the upgrades I need to go with the turbo's, but what size is optimal in a stock block? I've heard from a few guys that no bigger than a PT-53..?? Also, what is the fastest times that are run with those turbos in a quarter mile? (The ones that you recommend, not the PT-53)

Thanks,

Matt

What heads and cam?

What stall converter?

Lots of things more important than saying it's a stock block.

Girdled stock block?

What horsepower level are you trying to achieve?

Lots of variables and questions that need to be answered about the combination you are going to use.

Every upgrade possible

Ok, lets say...per say that I'm gonna do every upgrade possible to the engine, fuel, and turbo related parts what is the full potential of the engines capacity? I'll give you a possible breakdown.... Lets say I have 72 lb injectors, 70 mm plennum and TB, roller timing setup, art carr 3500 stall converter, beefed tranny (as much as needed), with engine girdle... What would the turbo be estimated as?? 53,63,64,70? Really, I'm just wondering what the block itself can handle with all the necessary upgrades?

Thanks,

Matt

There are guys in the mid 9s with stock blocks. They have all the goodies on them though. Most people can not get a stock block, no matter the parts, into the 9s.

Just looking for the 10's

Really I just want to get into the high/mid 10's realistically... I would be happy with high 10's with the engine not at high risk of blowing apart.... So with that in mind what turbo is recommened?

I would imagine a TE-45a or a 67GTQ would be fine for the stock block. Im by far no expert but it seems like those are good turbos to get you high mid 10's, maybe Taffy can chime in here

If you have basically stock heads, a 45a is the ticket. If you have good flowing heads and a nice sized cam, the 67 is your ticket. If you can go a little higher on the stall 3600+, get the Q trim wheel. The Q trim might not spool as well as the P trim, but with the added stall, that is not a problem, plus you get higher top end also!

I have stock heads and a 212-212 cam, do you think that would be good enough for a 67GTQ? I would probably get like a 3300 stall.

With the stock heads, stick to the 45a (66mm compressor wheel). It can be turned up higher for more boost to make up for the smaller ports. If you had good flowing heads, you could take advantage of the 67. The 45a with a P trim exhaust wheel is your best bet.

If you need super fast spool, you will not like the 45a with 3300 stall. Some people can get it to work, but most will not like it. The GT61P might be better for you with the 3300 stall.
