I have an 85 t-type. I have already bought a turbo crank,8445 heads and a 109 block. All need maching. But that will done shortly.

My car runs strong. But it has 130,000 on it. So I think that it is due for a rebuild. It already has an aluminum radiator with electric fan. An 87 ecm, snubber, rear seat braces,airbags,posi,lt1 maff w/ translator, cold air intake, walpro 307, adj. fuel reg.

With all that being said would I be better off tracking down all of the brackets, etc. needed to convert to intercooled. or should i go with the turbo motion setup. Are you still limited to avilable turbos for hot air cars with the tm setup? Or can you use any turbos that the intercooled cars do?

My over all goal is to go mid 11's on pump gas and alchy. And I insist on using the 109 block. So will all of my current brackets and such mount up,(if i go with the tm setup). The block came from an 87 n/a olds.

Any other +'s or -'s to the tm setup would be appreciated.

thanks for the help

TM IC info

One of the reasons why I bought the TM kit, was strictly because I have a good engine with the basic go fast mods to it, and I thought it would be just way too much of a hassle to find a good 86/7 motor, all the parts, brackets and such to do the swap. Pretty much, you would have to find a wrecked 86/7 TR or GN to do it problem free. That way you will have all the parts to need.

One of the other reasons I bought it, is because of all the great things I have heard about it. It is pretty well the setup exactely like the 86/7 engine, with the exception that the turbo still lives on top of the engine. The throttle body is moved onto the intake and off the compressor which gives better drivibility, idle, and throttle responce. The intercooler necks are cut off which will give better air flow. The intake Outflows the 86/7 stock intake. Only thing really required to go extremely fats are a bigger turbo, injectors, and electricfans. There are quite a few guys on here, who have had amazing results with instant seat in the pants difference with this kit. You can also run all different types of turbos with this kit, because there are no adapter intak seals to play with, and theres no more Throttle body on the turbo anymore. Thats my 2 cents for the day. :D Anyone else who has info on this please share as id like to hear it myself! :)

You can use any of the 86/7 turbo's AS LONG AS it will fit on top of the motor and still have enough room for the hood to close...

Don't try the conversion peice by peice. My dad did it that way and there are so many bracket, bolts, and other stuff than you realize. You would be much better off and probably cheaper to get a complete 87 motor. The TM intake outflows the 87 intake anyway. I'm running a TE64 and I test fitted it the other day and the hood closes but barely. I'm going to put a notch in the heatshield for a little extra clearance.

The turbomotion kit is a pure awsome. I wish I could have gotten some luck. I am still amazed everytime I open the hood of my Dad's car (yes I sold it) and see that kit. Mid 12's shouldn't be a probelm if he gets everything right. Driveablitily was top notch.

I attempted to piece together a 86-87 engine - and it wasn't happening - some parts were outragous. So I called Jay and ordered the kit.

Mid 12's sounds ok. But I am aiming for low 11's. Is anyone doing this with the tm kit? If so what is your combo.

Rember I am using a 109 block and 8445 heads. This is a complete rebuild. My Car already has most of the basics as I listed above. And I do plan on running alchy and cranking up into the twenties with boost.

Basically how fast are you guys that already have the tm running?

Hey nocooler. I didn't even noyice that you were from stl. What part of town are you in. I almost never run across anyone else with a tr around here.

Yeah I didn't notice the MI.:)

Guess I'm still not running into any tr owners around stl-missouri;)
