Basically, what turbos can be ran on an 84-85 car? I know the te44, but what else?

A 44 won't fit without a lot of modifications. There isn't much options for them since the throttlebody mounts to the inlet bell, and it must be fairly short to clear the hood. PTE sells a TA48 turbo that is pretty good, and you can purchase a TA33 turbo from John craig at limit engineering (don't let the 33 smaller than the 48 fool you they are very close i believe)

Talk to one of the turbo specialists, they can weld the adapter from an 85 style turbo to the 87 style turbo, and it bolts up. HTH

ok, just curious. I just got an 84 gn, and it has the stock turbo, but it has bad seals. Is that line in the middle of the turbo on the top the oil line? Also, where can I find stock seals for the turbo for now until i get a larger turbo later on????

Oh yeah, a couple more questions, is there suppost to be a speedo cable that goes to your cruise control module under the hood? There is a cable sitting there, but broken. Not sure if its suppose to or not. And is there any pis of the fuel lines, and vacuum hose diagrams?

Yep, that is the oil line on top, return is on bottom. As for seals, and/or replacing them... I have no idea. I have yet to venture into a turbo.

As for the cruise, my 85 doesn't have a cable like the speedo, but does have a cable that hooks to the throttle body. The others are vacuum lines. I will try to attach a pic.

Pics and diagrams~ most are in the sticky "basic hot air info". If you can't find the correct one, do a search and you should be able to find EVERYTHING!!!

Hope this helps, if you need anything else, post again!!!

Well, the cable inside of it looks kind of wound, and then small strands inside it, and i pulled the cable out, and on the end it is squarish. Als, why do you have one cable hanging when youve already got one attached to your cruise control thing? Mine only has one also.

Hey, can you do me a big favor, and take a few pics of the pass side ruel rails? There are two tubes that are close together, and both are cut. I dont know where they go to.

That is one cable. My engine is on the stand right now.

Fuel rails? There is only one fuel rail, wraps around teh intake. The two tubes you are talking about may be the coolant tubes?

Is the pic the tubes you are talking about?

No, its rubber hoses that come up facing inward towards the intake. Hard to explain. Ill get some pics when I pick it up, and see what you guys think.

Hey, are you finding it hard to switch everything over to the 86 87 setup? costly?

OH yeah, one more thing. ON the stock turbo, if i was to get a manual boost controller, how much could i turn up the boost for the time being? would it gain much?

Shoot me a pic when you get a chance, since you may not be able to post them here.

As for switching to IC'ed stuff..... Not hard, but of course I have yet to put it together and in. I have a few GN's within 20-30 minutes from me in case I need to look at intake bolt or front cover bolt arrangement, harness connections, etc. Cost is the big thing. Your likely to spend $1500 - $2000 for the swap parts. I got all mine from a board member as a kit. But used parts are used parts and some were wore out. Main reason I went to the IC'ed is I guess I am lazy and wanted to go faster easier. I used to say easier and cheaper, but I am not convinced it is cheaper yet.

Before you dive into swapping, max out the hot air. Ported intake, bigger turbo, ported heads, big mouth cold air intake, bigger downpipe, good exhaust, etc. This is all after the necessities like adjustable fuel press regulator, fuel pump, hot wire kit, boost gauge, and definitely a scan tool like Turbo link.

If you have any questions, keep posting your q's, but also check out the search function, do some research. Email me or pm me if you have questions as well.
