I have an 84 GN with an 87 motor and a 3000 stahl . How big is to big of a turbo. I'm very new to the turbo scene. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

people here seem to love the 6262 bb should have plenty of growing room too... gonna need a scanmaster and make sure your fuel system is up to par first though

make sure its good/ true 3000 stall.... I had a so called 2800 stall in mine when first bought it but is was a 12' I know have a true 2800 9/11 big
difference

Someone told me a te60 wouldne a good choice my goal is 550 to 600 hp to the pavement what's your opinion

You will need a lot more than that. The TE60 is a mismatch of wheels and wont support anywhere near what you are looking for. A 60-1 with 76 p trim would be about the absolute minimum you could run to make 550whp. You will need a good custom torque converter built and a set of race ported heads and a lot of tuning to get those numbers. Youre probably looking at about another $8k worth of parts and labor to be able to make 550-600whp and thats assuming the trans/rear have already had attention.

380-420whp depending on fuel and timing. you're better if keeping it a low rpm application that peaks around 4200 and use the cylinder pressure to get you moving. 500tq would be typical

So any advice on buying a turbo just as a rough idea my motor is and 87 fresh rebuild I didnt buy any cheap stuff same with my transmission and rearend I can do that kind of work but when I start reading about different turbos it might as well be written in Spanish and if I buy a used one do I need gaskets to install it

Bison, how would you go about maximizing a TE60?

What is a good combo (cam/heads/converter/etc) for this type of a turbo.

You can't maximize a 60-1 compressor with a stage 3 turbine. It's not really possible. The compressor wheel will flow upwards of 65lbs/min and the turbine is done at 52-53lbs/min under ideal conditions. So you are limited by the turbine. Therefore you need to build the combo around it. Which means low rpm, boost in the mid to high 20's and very importantly a small cam with quite a bit more lobe separation than would normally be used. Having the CR higher will help a lot on the ex stroke along with proper cam timing to leave the cylinder clean. Octane requirement will increase quite a bit with that type of combo. I'd be using a custom 9.5" ptc with a flash stall in the 4200 rpm area and probably a custom roller with 195 duration @.050, tall 29" slicks and 116'octane

Is it possible to change the turbine and exh housing to match the compressor?

Yes. You need to send it in and have it rebalanced and another housing or have yours machined

Just because I am learning this stuff, im curious about who I could send mine to? How much its gonna cost? Is it worth it? What wheel would you recommend?

Thanks bison, you're the man

Id assume a local machine shop could bore the housing. Then you could send it to precision and have them put a p-trim wheel in it and balance it. Im looking at making my 6157 into a 6176. Im wondering about pricing too, probably time to start calling around
