Hey guys. I was screwing around with a Mustang buddy of mine today......after I stabbed it, I noticed sloppy shifts. This has happened before (only lately) and it was the TV cable coming forward a click or so. Usually I just reset it and go. But when I popped the hood it was fine. I tugged on the cable up top and there was slack. Is it possible to stretch this cable? I know its not broken, because I took it off at the transmission and had a buddy pull up while I pulled down and it didnt come out in 2 pieces.

So.......I ordered a TV cable from Oreilly Auto Parts. Unfortunately, I dont have much more to work with here at school (small town). I need to have the car since it is my daily ride. I guess what Im asking is.....will this be okay? What TV cables do you guys run? Whats the GM part number? Can you still get it? Thanks guys.......

PS- Just thought of this.......(going to try and explain it the best I can). Where the TV cable goes into the transmission on the front/passenger side of the trans, there is a 10mm nut that holds the base of the cable in. Well, there is a small metal "L" rod that hooks to the grey plastic bottom/end of the TV cable........is it possible that this got damaged? How high is this suppost to be able to be pulled out of the hole in the transmission for the TV cable? About 1" or so? I hope I didnt mess up the mechanism for the TV cable????????????? THANKS

something simular to this happened to my tv cable.. Except it caused a rod and spring to pull free raising tv pressures as a limp home mode. (more or less) Mine is like yours. Its connected but seems way to long. Its the original one and I bought a new one from a local National auto for $17. I have yet to instal it tho. Too cold to be lying on a concrete floor.:)

Neil-
If the new TV is Pioneer brand, it is too short by about 1/2". It will not reach the TB bracket. Been there. get a GM TV cable. They are proud of it, but it fits and works perfect.

oh oh, I think thats the one I have to put on :( Damn Where do I find a OEM one?

Its my only option right now, I have to be able to drive the car tomorrow..........its my daily. I will call the parts store that ordered it and see if its Pioneer Brand. :(

WHERE CAN I GET AN OEM??

Ive been checkin Neil. GM parts direct wants $79 with shipping. Arnald palmer Chevy wants about $92 with shipping. List is $111.t

Better not go through GM then.

Its the spring inside the trans, it has to be, did a test with cable lengths, etc..........isnt checking out, gonna drop the pan. Thanks

even though the cables look to be the same, they have a different throw length. this will cause you problems.

I hear ya Neil. Its not fair that aftermarket is 1/6th the price. But aftermarket is no good if it don't work..:(

$75-100 for a TV cable is rediculous i believe i only paid $35 and some change for mine about 3 weeks ago from my local chevy dealer. I would not recomend an aftermarket universal one either not a good setup at all, you have to make it the proper length which seems alittle messed up to me since the correct length is pretty critical to these trannies.

I'm assuming the GN's and MCSS have the same cable not to familiar with the GN other than there tranny, but yeah that's all i paid. The clip that hooks to the carb was broke and the tranny guy missed it when he did the rebuild and when i went to pick up the tranny he noticed and told me to replace it and that it probably would't be cheap but i called chevy and only $35 which i did't think that was to bad since one of the crap universal ones runs about $20
