I am in the process of hunting down transmission issues, I have the CK manual and would like to add to the knowledge I am getting from this manual.

Can someone take a moment to explain what the TV limit valve does. I think it limits the amount of oil fed to the TV valve. If this is the case, what is the purpose of this action.

I'll be returning with various questions as I improve my understanding, thanks!

OK,
This is a quick answer from memory...

The pump feeds fluid to the TV valve, then it goes to the TV limit, then it goes back to the TV boost valves.

I believe the TV limit, regulates the pressure down to 0-90 psi. 0% TV equals 0 psi TV Limit, 100% TV equals 90 psi TV limit pressure.

The TV runs off TV pressure (from the TV limit) which regulates the higher line pressure.

Based on documentation, I can think this is right. I at least see a comment indicating the TV limit controls pressure 0-90 PSI.

Now I am trying to trace how lo1 and lo2 are boosted to 300 psi. I am getting low readings when I shift manually to these gears and I am wondering if that is my shift issue.

I installed CK's valve body and governor that is supposed to allow me to shift around 5700 RPM. my 1-2 comes around 4700 while my 2-3 is around 5100-5300 range. Seems like it might be a governor issue but I can't tell.

I am wondering if it can be a check ball issue. When doing this they fell off the plate. But I think I got them back in the right place.

did you install the signal oil pipe on the valve body?that set up as tested in car will produce a 5800 to 6100 wot upshift.did you install the governer included with the valve body?if not that is more than likely the problem.can you get the tv cable any tighter?are the shifts firm?

I need to take a ride in another buick. I'll say the shifts aren't like a Honda Accord. You can feel the 1-2 instantly, so I'll say that is firm and not hard.

The same is the for the 2-3 shift, but the forth is barely perceptible.

I did install the signal oil pipe, is there anything special required to get it to seat?

Could low pressure readings in D1 and D2 cause this issue?

I sent you an email with the pressure readings listed.

Please advise.

2-1 kickdown

do you get a 2/1 kickdown at 20 mph and wot?

I do get a kick down somewhere thereabouts, meaning when I come to a stop somewhere before I stop it kicksdown to 1st gear. Hard to tell where, my speedometer is kind of jumpy at low speeds.

What I'll do on my way into work is test the kickdown while in lo2. I'll post back with the results.

Chris you can email me @ mad_trbo@yahoo.com

As far as the T.V cable I can make it go as tight as I want. The issue is it gets to a point where I can't open the throttle body all the way. So in other words the TV bottoms out before I am @ WOT.

okay but does it shift later because if it does you can shorten the tvplunger spring.

Chris

Help me understand, if I go to WOT and the TV plunger is fully compressed. Doesn't that mean the cable is as tight as it needs to be?

I don't have part throttle shift issues, it seems if I tighten the cable this will allow the valve to close earlier and delay shifts at part throttle. But in my mind the WOT position is the same.

Now if you are simply telling me I need to shorten the spring, that is different that tightening the cable, right?

Chris bottom line, is there a problem or does this thing just need tweaking? I would love to get to the bottom of this before the weekend is out.

Well What Happened When You Installed The Checkball In The Right Place?

Still shifting the same way Chris. I logged it on the XFI and I see 1-2 @ 4100 and 2-3 @ 4900. I made several logs of WOT 1 - 4 and the shift points were consistently the same.

Okay, pukll The Tv Cable All The Way Out And Lock It Smartly With A Vise Grip.what Is The Wot Shift Points Now?and Remember It Will Not Shift At Part Throttle, this Is Only For Testing Purposes.this Will Help Isolate The Cause.

I was finally able to perform the requested test with no changes at all in the shift points.

still 4100 for the 1-2 and 4900 - 5000 for the 2-3. Please advise.
