I got one that I used at the local hardware store. They had a selection to choose from. I'm pretty sure as long as it pushed the TV valve back it is good .

Shifts where quick using the spring from a pen. I'm pretty sure using that spring was why.

Measure the free length of the large tv plunger spring with a dial caliper and also measure the amount of tv plunger remaining out of the bushing at the point where the tv valve just bottoms out. We'll go from there

Ok let me pick up a battery for the caliper and I'll check back in. Thanks

Install the spring, bushing, and plunger in the valve body. Push the plunger in until the T.V. valve bottoms out then measure how much of the plunger is still extended from the bushing.

Ok got it thanks for clarifying that

Does that valve truly bottom out against the very back of the bore with the small spring completely collapsing inside it? Is that a conical outer anti stick spring I see?

Yes it does bottom out. It is a conical spring in there also. It works freely

I'd find another small spring (preferably a high quality spring and not from a pen) and try it without the conical helper. It has to be able to freely collapse completely inside the end of the tv valve. Alternately you can find a stiffer plunger spring that still has a 2" free length. Like in the other thread from McMaster- Carr
