hey guys, im new here, im Zach Tower, i don't have a turbo buick (dang, i know, maybe sometime) i have an LT1 6spd TA, and a 70 327/TH350 nova.

this summer i am going to build a twin turbo setup for it, i have seen guys build them on 5.0 mustangs using the stock T3 turbos (.63,.60) manual thunderbird turbos. so i got the idea of doing this to my nova. i will change out the pistons and the cam, possibly the heads.

can anyone on here help me pick out 2 turbos (used maybe stock) off a GN? and help me with the setup. all i would need is two good cheap turbos (from GN, if anyone prefers these over the thunderbird turbos) and i will custom make the headers and exaust and intake tubes, and run it through a 4 barrell, double pumper, and a holley strip dominator intake.

please help me pick some turbos, cheaply, and help me with a good setup. that 306 mustang with 2-manual T3 turbos was running 10.8s (5.0 mustang and fast fords) please help me at LEAST run this, even faster.

thanks
Zach

it may take a while to find two stockers , they sell fast . They sell for $150-200 used .

should i use two stock GN turbos, if so what kind, im not familiar with the buick GN turbos. what should i use?

Ive seen a SBC with twin pt54 and a very high HP chevy that used twin 76's. Getting the exhaust size and turbo size correct is going to be tough but alot of people are doing build ups now, compared to a year ago.

how does the pt54 compare to a ford thunderbird turbo .63/.60 trim, spool and sort.

and 76 what? sorry don't know a whole lot about turbos, but maybe since you said high horsepower maybe thats too much for my application.

is the pt54 a better turbo than a tbird 5speed turbo?

'86-87 stock GN turbos are the ones you want. They should be able to support about 350hp maybe a little more.

They pop up for sale all the time for $175-225 in good used working condition. Just keep checking in the for sale section.

That should be plenty to go 10's as long as your isn't a total pig (heavy).

Hope you have forged pistons because you are going to need them. Porting the heads will only help make more power. Select a turbo specific cam profile as they are different than some N/A ones. You don't need a wild cam to go fast unlike n/a setups.

Good luck,

-Mark

yeah, i am going to change the pistons, i have TRWs in right now with double hump 2.02, 64cc, which is around 10.5:1, so i am going to get some forged dished pistons, and maybe some sr torquer heads.

as for the cam, i might go roller, it has a crane solid cam, roller-for forced induction.

gnx7-are the 86-87 turbos all the same? which ones to get? i will probably go GN turbos over the fords, id prefer GM parts, i would just like help with which turbos.

the reason i was going to go for ford after seeing that article on the 5.0, no intercoolers, MAC shorties turned upside down, and two manual turbos, at 12 psi, he was hitting 450horse, and 530tq to the wheels, and running 10.8s, in a 3400 lb car.

but if you prefer the GN turbos i will go with that, for sure. i just need to know which ones, and how to get them.

You would really be better off going with a large single turbo. The twin Gn turbos would definitely spool fast, but would run out of efficiency pretty quick without intercooling.

yeah, i am going to try and intercool it.

would anyone have any ideas on an intercooler(s)

i saw one guy take a turbo diesel ford intercooler and put it in his 72 nova.

but i was thinking more like a twin intercooler setup.

Try the Master Power Super 70s. I have a set on my car and work in Brazil alot so I see many race cars there that make some big numbers.I used two 57mm with .70 AR on the turbine and Compressor.Should be good for around 1200hp:confused: and they are cheap ....but the thrust bearings are actualy built better than Garret because they make these in Brazil and they run realy high boost there because almost all cars there are alchol. You can buy it at every gas station and it's half the price of gas.
