type k for omega digi egt

Just wondering what is the best type k thermocouple to use for monitoring egts with an omega digital temp gauge? Is there a difference in quality from one to another and where should I buy?

Most type K's are similar.

Smaller diameter probe usually means quicker response time less thermal mass.

Omega can be purchased on-line and they have clamp on probes.

I use a Westach clamp on probe but had to extend the wiring to reach the meter in the car.

Omegas' stuff is high quality.

I got my omega egt today and it has a plug on the front of it. How am I supposed to hook up a type k to the gauge unless it has that plug on the end of it.

Where can I find the right thermocouple and how do I hook it up? Do I have to use an omega thermocouple?

Actually it is quite easy.

Take the small screw out of the yellow plug and you should see two small screw terminals where the wires go.

You must however get the right color wire to the right terminal.

You have a 50/50 shot if you guess. I don't recommend that however.

Look on Omegas site for type K thermocouple wiring. There are two alloys in the thermocouple. One goes to one terminal and one to the other.

You don't have to use an Omega thermocouple but it might make it easier to do.

Mine came with a thermocouple but it is obviously not the right one. It's a very small thermocouple with no sealing capability. It is attached to a yellow connector that plugs into the front of the meter. That yellow plug doesn't have a screw for me to take it apart.

So, I guess i'm going to buy one of their adapters and see if I can find the correct wireing. Thanks for your input.

Is anyone running this egt and if so, where did you buy your thermocouple?

Can't seem to find any clamp on probes from Omega anymore.

None in the big book or on the website.
