Howdy all I posted on another board about a car (monte ss)I thought was stolen in my area and have been arguing with this guy that the Vin # is not stamped on the transmission or rear he's saying its put on there with ultraviolet marks I think he is full of crap - which one of us is right? - Thanks

There is a second stamping of the VIN in undisclosed places so that law enforcement can identify a vehicle even after it's been stolen, wrecked, set on fire, whatever......The manufacturer hides it pretty well and the law knows that if they keep looking, it's there somewhere. I saw that on some Discovery channel forensics show. The whole ultraviolet thing is just laughable!

On a GN it is on top of the frame along the drivers side. The police will want to cut a hole in the floor to check it. We made a tool with a mirror once for a customer car that had to be checked out when he did not want them to cut the floor they showed us where the number was. His car ended up being OK
