hey guys :) will changeing the stock up pipe make that big of a difference on the car if so what brand would you guys recommend? Also i want to do an ALCOHOL INJECTION setup on my 85 T and was wondering what kits would you guys recomend......... any advice would be greatly appreciated

With stock headers any up pipe will fit, but it won't make much difference with stock headers. Most will change up and down pipes with headers and exhaust. The idea being to open up the entire system. But if you have your heart set on an up pipe that will fit aftermarket headers when you decide to get them, www.jaysgn.com has one.

As for alky, Razor has the best kit not to mention he is very helpful and a prominant member of this board. But if your running stock boost levels on a stock 85, you really don't need alky. alky is to quell knock at higher boost levels by cooling the charge....

Spend your $ on the down-pipe if you are running the stock unit and can locate one. There is a, active project/thread describing the makings of a few DP's for a hot Air.

As far as the alky kit, see sig.

What is your goal?

Well

LOW elevens Or better  i also dont think my car has a posi ....So im pritty sure that would help, and like i said no sticky tires. As of now i can not get above ten pounds without knock so its been at ten pounds for a while

Nice list of mods there
If you want to do alky.............DO IT!! You be running more then 10lbs. of boost then ;)

I am no expert but I believe you will a bigger turbo to go low 11's. I am sure one of the experts who has "been there done that" will chime in.

The ta49 is good for mid 11's. You obviously have to have everything else to support it....heads, intake, fuel, tranny, rear end, suspension, etc.

Cool! Is that on a IC car or Hot Air?

Shouldn't matter. I mean what is really different? If you can run the same boost levels with alky as they are with an intercooler then its all the same. Just comes down to heads, intake, downpipe, headers, cam, injectors, tranny, stall, suspension, TUNE, and etc.
I know our cars came from the factory a little sluggish, but if the hood says 3.8L SFI TURBO then we all got a fighting chance. ;)

Not exactly... Intercooler would make it much easier to go fast even at the same boost levels.

I can vouch that the stock turbo absolutely will not go faster than 106mph traps which is good for mid-high 12s. I had two stockers completely maxed out. Once I bolted on a little TA49 my mph went up to 110mph at the same boost.

So, what are you saying, cool? Better to run an intercooler or alky, if you had to choose just one to run on your hot air? I know, I know........I am starting WWIII between the hot air guys running alky, but I just want to hear your insight on this. -Nick.

I run both now. But if I had to choose it would be an easy choice for the intercooler. I think alky is great for the people that want to keep it hotair and sometimes I feel like I took the easy way out. If you want to get the same cooling effect as the intercooler, you have to inject large quantities of alky which is something I don't want to mess with on my street car. I'm not saying you can't get the same cooling but by the time you do, over 20% of your fuel is methanol. With the intercooler there's nothing to wear out, corrode, or fail. Besides, with my driving style I would be refilling twice a day.

I agree with your previous post. Once we get our intakes to flow, crappy downpipe replaced, and a cooler air charge, our cars should respond the same mod for mod as the later cars. I've run some of the local 86-7 cars with roughly the same mods as me and I've done very well.

That is EXACTLY how I feel about having my front mount intercooler. It just so easy, never have to fill something, its always there. Now lets get back on track for Buick Boy

Alky it is

:D ALKY IT IS......lol .....when you guys say heads....i mean mine have been ported and polished so.............are you guys saying im gonna need bigger heads/intake if so who makes some good ones for our cars. Also is the Razor kit pritty easy to install on our cars, if not what holes/fabrication needs to be done  i appreciate the help guys

Boy Buick- Get the Razor kit and install it. It will easily allow 10lbs more boost with no knock. This is based on your signature. Once installed you will be happy. I have installed the kit and it really is easy-I am not a mechanic. I have eliminated the stock fan and shroud which allows me to put an intercooler between the radiator and the engine in the future. Look at all options. Good luck. Brad
