If you remember I posted my 86 GN had been vandalized while it was being restored. Well State Farm says a 86 GN with 140,000 miles on it is only worth $3800 no matter what you have done to it. I had to hire independent appraiser. He says it will come in around $5000 because it hadn't been painted yet. That is about what I told the guy for state farm I thought it was worth. He told me I didn't know what I was talking about. If your GN has some miles on it get it appraised if you have State Farm. Andy

Good ole State Farm. I still remember one of the only times I saw my Dad get livid was dealing with a State Farm agent about a claim. 35 years as a professional truck driver, no tickets or accidents and they wanted to raise his rates 300% because some drunk hit his car while he sat at a stop light. Go figure huh? Sound like a good time to search insurance companies to me

State farm uses nada book value. Go to nada.com and look up your car. Print it and take it in. I verified this because I have state farm also, my 87 was like $20,000 on nada.com. Good luck

Out of boredom I looked it up. Low retail is $7,650 on your car. That should be the least they can pay you for it, if its totalled. Your appraiser is wrong, as is the claims adjuster. Print it, show them, and get yo' money!

nada value

Yes I know what the web site says. The appraiser that I used is a member of NADA (his company is in the nada book and he is endorsed by them) The web site states values on what they consider low mileage collector cars. If you look in the actual book the value is $3800. I looked at the nada book in my agents office and the one the appraiser had. I think it is BS but that is what the book says. Andy

I wonder why the website would have different prices? Heres what you do then: Tell them to find you a comparable car for $3800. When they can't they'll know whats up. We just went through this with my buddies suburban. They tried to pay him some lowball figure, so he did what I just said. Now he drives a much newer nicer suburban.:D

The insurance is figured on replacement value. You can opt for them to replace your vehicle with a comperable one. Just tell them you want a vehicle not the money. Once they start looking they will see the light. Don't take no for an answer. When they insist, you just utter the word "lawyer". Then they get real.
Good luck.

Could it be you looked up retail value, and they showed you wholesale value of the car?

value

The way it is explained to me is the web site cuts off at 100,000 miles and since my car has 140,000 on it the book says it is worth 3800. I just got the offer today from independent appraiser of 5200 for car minus 1200 since it has not been painted yet from hail storm (everything else fixed) and minus salvage if I want car back. This is over the phone nothing in writing. I will probably by car back and sell for parts. Andy
