I just got my car back from a mechanic, for unrelated problem, and there is a vaccum leak behind the climate control panel. It is only there when swithed to hot and/or economy settings. I pulled the panel and all the vaccum lines seem to be attached and not leaking, almost as if the leak is with in the controller itself. Any ideas would be great!! Thanks Bryan

It might help if you explain a little of why it was in the shop. Everyone knows mechanics are notorious for overlooking small details and not hooking stuff back up. Did you check the small vacuum hose connected to the bottom of your heater control valve that is connected in line with the heater hoses running to and from the heater core?

It was in the shop getting heads, downpipe, turbo, and a hi stall conv. .I can hear the leak with a hose to the ear method and it is coming out of the controll unit itself.

i had the same problem...needed a new controll panel, there is a gasket between all the vacuum lines and the panel, and is held in place with 2 slide over clips that go bad and let the gasket move around and it ends up messing it up..get a new one,i paid like 50 bux,new from gm...good luck

Will a small vaccum leak like this hurt performance?
i think its very minimal my scan master readings didnt change when i plugged the leak up

There are two valves behind the control panel that vacuum lines go into. My 85 Monte Carlo was doing the same thing. I replaced both valves about $20 total from GM and it fixed my leak. The larger valve with with lots of multicolor vacuum lines rotates when you change from a/c, to defrost, to heat, ect. depending where air flow is to be ducted. The rubber diaphram gets old and leaks. I just replace both valves since it was apart. Hope this helps your problem.

Would this leak have any effect on block learns? like a vacuum leak under the hood?
