Vaccum/boost Gauge?

A question, Can u tell if u have a vaccum leak by looking at your vaccum/25 boost gauge. Without touching the pedal, the gauge should read just vaccum right, how much is a normal number by looking at the gauge? I don't think I have any leaks, I would just like to know.

When looking around a posts on vacuum brakes I'm thinking 15 psi but I could be wrong, I remember some saying that is min for vacuum brakes and about what we'd see?? What are you seeing?

On my stock engine and vacuum brakes, the gauge reads 18 in at idle in park, about 16 in in drive. Vacuum brakes dont make much of a difference on the gauge though, should be around 17-18 with a stock cam with either setup. To answer your question, you can certainly still have vacuum leaks and have a good reading on the gauge at idle. I just sealed up a few leaks on my vacuum block last week (found them with a mity-vac) and after the fix my gauge showed no different. Check for vacuum leaks manually, a gauge wont help much unless they are really big leaks. Hope this helps.

No, you cannot tell if you have a vacuum leak by using a vacuum gauge.

There is no normal reading. It varies for every single engine.

good is 17-20
pull a vac line and see if that does anything to the gauge

I'm still using the orginial powermaster brake system, works fine
