I know nothing about bikes so I need a little help on what the value may be:

100th Aniv. 883. I assume a Sportster and assume 2003. I received a reply to a car for sale ad and they were asking if I wanted to trade. I am just wondering what type of value this bike may have. She indicated it has a bunch of chrome, blah, blah, blah. But as far as value goes, is this important in re-sale? She said the bike was $7K new with 3500 in aftermarket. I have a couple pics that I can try to post. Bike has 8000 miles on it.

I would be looking to hang onto the bike until spring and re-sell, or put towards a trade on an IC'd GN/TR.

Any information would be helpful. Also, not that it matters on the value of the bike, but it would be for a trade against a 1999 Honda van, complete with animal cracker arms and legs and a few Bob The Builder fruit snacks between the seats.

Thanks

That is a very small slow bike. Basicaly a girls bike. I wouldnt think it would be worth more than 4 or 5k.

4-5K sounds right. Doesn't matter if she had 10K in chrome, it's meaningless when it comes time to sell. You know how it goes when trying to sell something, you never get your money back out of the aftermarket stuff.

I doubt the minivan will stop depreciating but a $5000 Harley probably will, probably already has. If she'll trade you straight up I would not hesitate. Not to talk bad about the minivan but it's likely worth less than the motorcycle and more expensive to maintain & insure.

You're mean! I guess the Buell Blast is really a girls bike than. LOL. I'm no Harley expert but I think all of the 2003 models were anniversary editions.Sportster 883 was the cheapest HD they sold. No bonus points there. If it was me, assuming the bike is showroom fresh with no signs of road rash or being dropped, I'd say even trade if you think the van is worth $4K. Flip that bike as fast as you can. The problem with used Harleys is that they are like a**holes and belly buttons. Every body has one and they think there is a demand for them. The price only comes down when its either been sitting for sale for a year or somebody finally faces the reality they aint worth what they thought. Personally I'd pass if you know nothing about bikes or dont ride.

No more than $4200 Its not a real good seller The blast & the 883 are beginner bikes or a ladys bike Im at the harley shop 3 to 4 times a week Newer models every yr,different styles ,engines ,6speed trannys & the list goes on The most expensive one right now in $32000.Yrs ago u had to wait 6 months to get one Now their a dime a dozen

Thank You

Thank You all for the responses. hard to belive that a Honda van with over 100K is worth $6500 but it seems to be priced correctly by the number of responses I have recieved. I will see if the different cash buyers work out before persuing the trade for the bike. I did check e-bay completed listings for '03 883's and they were not trading very high. Most were unsold. It is not my goal to be part of that list.
