valve body question

Greetings from Indiana! I have a buddy that wants to install a 2004r in his 75 Lemans. The core he wants to use came out of a 86 GN. The tag on the side of the case has a BY1 code ( same code on the valve body). The govenor gear is red. Is it a turbo trans or a low performance trans? I have the CK book, but I loaned it to another buddy,and now he cant find it! Thanks!

Trans Codes

I'd say Low performance trans. Out of something with a 4.1-V6.

Yes its from a 4.1. It will work well if you want WOT shifts in the 5k range. The color of the governor gear does not effect the shift points at all. Use a speedo selection chart to get he correct drive and driven gears for the tire height and ring and pinion you are using.

What do you suggest I do to raise the shift point to say 5500-5800rpm? I also have core trans that I remove from a 85 Monte Carlo. Would this be a better choice? Thanks!

Id use the MCSS trans if it were me. It should put you where you want to be.
