I have an 87 gn with 55,000 miles, the car has gone !2.0@113. The valve springs are the original ones. I understand that the stock ones are a weak point. So, are there different aftermarket valve springs available, and what do you recomend? Is this about a 1 hour job or so? Would you expect me to pick up some mph in the quarter mile?
Thanks

comp cams 980-12's you can get them from Summit. you can supposedly pick up .2/2mph with the change of springs.. i plan on doing this to my car soon also.

I consistantly picked up 3-4 MPH with just installing new springs (Summit's 980's).

Comp 980's are a good choice for stock replacements, they have just a bit more seat pressure than the stockers were rated at, before sitting for 15 years :) About an hour to do this....hehe your joking.....it'll take that long just to get the passenger side valve cover off and cleaned up :) If you have the Kirban tool, and everything goes smoothly and you have an air compressor and the fitting to keep the cyclinders pressurized so you don't drop a valve, then you're looking at about a 4-6 hour job....drop a keeper somewhere it shouldn't be and your talking 4-6 days to disassemble the engine to locate it :(

i was helping a buddy install new springs on his GN and we dropped a keeper.. after several hours of probing with a magnet, looking, feeling, etc etc etc, we finally realized it had gone through a small hole and was inside the crossmember
