It sounds like you replaced the wrong temp sensor for the gauge. The sensor for the computer is on the front left side of the intake manifold which has 2 wires. When you install a temp gauge you should be replacing the temp sensor with the sensor on the right side of the manifold next to the thermostat housing which is for the temp idiot light which has 1 wire.
