Has anyone got a easy way to have both the stock idoit light and a VDO water temp gauge working at the same time? I've got the VDI installed but had to take out the stock sender. Now I'm getting malfunction codes.

then you took out the wrong intake temp sensor!!!

i "think" the idiot light temp sensor is the one on the pass side, lower left, and has the female spade connector that pushes onto it-
is this the one you used??
if not, then that explains why you are getting a code :)

Where did you tap into the cooling system with the sending unit?
Maybe you removed the wrong sensor.
My guage is hooked up to the front of the intake manifold,
on the passenger side, just below, and to the left of the
upper radiator hose connection. I use an autometer guage,
but I would think your VDO would fit there too, you may need
to use some brass reducer fittings to get the right opening size.
I dont remember what used to be in that opening because
its been a long time:rolleyes:

Looks like I did use the wrong sensor. I have it on the driver's side. All I have to do I switch it.

Is there a way to have both the idiot light sensor and the new VDO sensor working the same time?

Maybe you can come up with some kind of T fitting or a
distribution block to set up both guage and light to work.
But IMO I think the guage may be a little more accurate if the
sending unit was actually in the "flow" of coolant rather than
a somewhat stagnant T fitting. Thats just what I "think"
Ditch the idiot light and keep an eye on the new VDO instead:p
