very high oil pressure at idle

I have had discussions on oil pressure with some of the best in the business. MY take on it is its all about volume of oil not so much the pressure. On one rebuild I did not open any of the stock passages (#2 and #3 main feeds) and used a bone stock timing cover. It held 28psi HOT in P. Second rebuild I drilled out the center main feeds and modified(port matched) the front cover and removed all the sharp 90degree turns. Also sized the bearing feed holes to the block openings. No rod or main bearing changes. It holds 20 psi HOT in P. Don't always think more pressure is always better. This is just my take on things and have no data to back this up other than my experience and what I've learned from others..
I do agree with Richard Clark that I would definately reconsider running a thin weight viscosity if you see 90-100 psi of pressure cold. Also it is more critical to run a GOOD quality oil filter (K&N, MOBIL 1, BALDWIN etc....)

peaking of oil filters, is anyone a fan of the factory ac delco?

AC filters have become crappy in the last couple years. Do a search on oil filters and read away for a few hours.

Don't sweat the oil. The climate here in Calgary isn't the same as the surface of Pluto like most Americans think it is. Go with 5w30 Mobil 1 and you'll be good. Just plug the car in when it drops to -20C and let the oil warm up a bit before you push the car. You probably want to let the warm up before you drive it anyway so you don't freeze your a$$ off anyway. Once the oil is warm it doesn't matter what temp it is outside.

i am not driving the gn over winter, i just start it up from time to time. i will take you up on the Mobil 1 5w30.

do you use synthetic or regular, and what filter do you run?
