Hello everyone. I have been having some vibration issues at about 1500 RPM. The car will start to shake driving down the road at this RPM. Its really bad shaking, but it can make a pretty nasty noise from my exhaust or something in my trunk. It doesn't affect the running of the car, but its quite embarrassing when you are on a date.

Thanks in advance,
Zack.

i would start with putting the car on 4 jack stands and fire it up run through the gears. Check U joints, wheels, rear end.

Sounds like a seized u joint. Pull the shaft and make sure joints move freely

Do you feel it in the shifter handle or steering wheel? floor board or seat sound coming from front or rear just a few places to start

Its coming from the rear, I can feel it through the seat.. Never noticed it on the steering wheel, but that doesn't mean its not there. Ill take her for a spin and get more accurate. Ill check the U joints, thanks.

She gets plenty of attention.. Damn ungrateful car.. She gets washed bi-weekly.. Oil changed every 2k miles.. Plenty of alcohol.. Well.. I guess it wouldn't be a Turbo Buick if it wasn't high maintenance..

Had a mustang with that same problem,it drove me crazy.Ended up being a bent axle.

Hi Zack,
You say that you get a vibration at 1500 rpm. Is it 1500 rpm moving 10 mph in first gear or is it 1500 rpm moving 45 mph in fourth gear? Have you driven down the road as the vibration was occuring and shift the transmission to nutral to elimenate the motor and some parts of the transmission as the source of vibration?

It occurs in all the situations you listed above. I have not shifted it into neutral while its happening, but in park it does occur.

Ok Zack,
Vibration in the driveway in park elimenates the driveshaft, rear axle and tires. Thats the good news, The bad news is vibration from the motor or transmission is usually exspensive. You might get lucky though. The first thing to check is your drive belt and pullys. Pop the belt off (its easy) and check everything that moves, especially the tensioner. Check the power steering pump and alternator.

When you say it vibrates at 1500 rpms do you mean it starts there and continues or does it go away at higher rpms ? Any smoke ? Loss of oil, water, oil pressure ? Checked all plug wires ? Checked injectors ? Compression test ?

Bryan

It starts there give or take 50-75 RPMs. It can continue up to about 1800. 2k RPMs is the most I have ever heard it at.

Pull the belt .. Sounds like an ac unit failing or power steering or the tensioner .. If it stops with the belt off . It's one of those problems ..

Hello everyone.. Hate to revive a thread from 6 months ago but... I still have the issue. Recently I have been adding some go-fast goodies like turbo, torque converter, downpipe, etc. Here is what I know.. At about 1700-1900 RPM the car has a pretty bad vibration/shake. It occurs in Neutral, Park, and while driving. It only occurs with my foot on the throttle, if I let go.. It stops. I just put a brand new trans mount in the car. The new converter seems to have exacerbated the problem. I think this is because the car spends more time at the RPM range with the looser converter. Any help would be appreciated..

I have original rubber engine mounts, and a brand new stock rubber tranny mount.
