How can I tell if this converter is locking up? Under normal driving if I locked the D5 it would drag the motor down is 2nd. With this converter I cant feel that. Is it a WOT thing? I had Vince Janis put the tube kit in so I know its right. Maybe its because of the higher stall. The pavement is too cold here and I run out of road for a safe wot run to over 100. Im heading to the track sat and hope this works. TIA Marty

I also put on a Hughes trans pan with the filter they provided. I cut the 2 rear legs down a little but not much. I could feel the pan pushing up on the filter. Could the filter be in contact with the 4th gear switch( I think thats it) and keep it from locking? There is a piece of plastic tape zip tied to the wire to keep this from happening but the fit of the filter was not perfect.

The filter spring clip should be moved forward to the next valve body bolt as the pictures show. This will keep the filter from contacting the 4th clutch pressure switch terminal.>> THM 200-4R 3/4 way down page.

Its been moved but Im wondering if the pan is pushint the filter into it still. Can the contact of the filter pushing into the switch keep it from locking up? Just hope this is it so I can just pull the pan and grind off the legs in the pan more. I always thought that clip was to hold the filter up. Not to keep it from hitting the valve body? Maybe I just learned something new again??? LOL Thanks for any help on this as I want to go tho the track tomorrow.

No my clip is in the stock location..Oops I thought it had been moved but looked at the pic wrong. I hope this cures the problem. As long as contgact with the switch is what is causing the no lock up.

I have been in a Buick with the 5 disc, and as yullose said, there is no doubt when it locks up, it's like another gear.

I agree, it doesn't sound like its locking up. It will feel like another shift while cruising or at WOT. May have gotten a bad TCC solenoid. I would drop the pan and take a look. You can get a universal 4l60e/200/700 solenoid from most transmission parts houses for under 20 bucks.

How are you trying to activate the lockup?

Do you have lockup capability set up in your chip? If so, what mph is it set for? If it's a TT chip, Eric has told me in the past that he does not put lockup at WOT unless a customer specifically asks for it. If it's his 6.0 chip, you can set it yourself (this is what I have). And I have a 5 disk vig lockup.

+1 on that you will know when it locks up ...The rattle at idle $ucks too but their a great converter.

I dropped the pan and the white wire to the TTC was pinched between the filter and the bolt. I hope that is it. Lock up is from a manual switch. It all worked before the converter install last week so I hope this is the fix. Im gonna knock some more off the pan stands so they dont push the filter so hard. Hopefully a pinched wire is the problem. Its not cut but Im sure it wont take much.

Also... the little tab was designed to push the filter DOWN into the oil since the 2004R filter had a top feed on it. The square 700 style filter has the feed on the filter and the tab will still help push the filter down into the fluid. You will see a "square" void in the rear of the plastic where that tab will push down.

If it was pinched it could have blown the fuse as well. I don't remember which one it is though

I got it all sorted out but havnt got the car out yet 2 inches of rain fell yesterday so I am going to check fuses while I wait for the pavement to dry.

Like they say if it is locking you will know it, It scared my wife when we took a ride feels like something hitting the floor board and the RPM's on mine drops 1500, Just driving it locks at about 40-45 mph on the track it locks at 126 mph

Well its back together and still not locking. How can I troubleshoot this? Everthing was fine before. I have 12v to the purple on the side of the trans. How can I check the solonoid? The fuse was not blown either. Any help on this is appreciated.

I know it is most likely a dumb question but you do have it to lock up in your chip or computer don't you
