Vinyl Siding Costs???

Anyone have sq.ft. costs or stories to tell for vinyl clapboard installations? I've found a general cost of $3.50 per sq.ft. and wondered what others may have paid.

I was just quoted 1.25 a sq ft and 5.00 per liner foot of soffit.
