My friend is moving to northeren viginia to work in DC.
How strict will the emissions laws be for an 82 Vette?
How is traffic in that area.
Any drag strips or good car shows to attend.

Traffic totally sux, i read that no.va has the 2nd worst traffic in the country. There are a few drag strips within an hours drive...75-80, Capitol Raceway,Mason-Dixon... HTH. kurt

emissions suck, i kept my GN registered in north carolina. it would be impossible to pass. traffic is terrible, tell him if he's going to be working in D.C. and living in northern virginia he's in trouble traffic wise. If you lived in D.C. and worked in Northern VA he would be fine because he would be going against traffic each way. There are quite of strips here like hang10 said. MIR ( Budds Creek ), Capitol, 75-80 and these are quarter mile. There's Old Dominion and another 1/8 mile track out here near me. I hate 1/8 mile though.

It's impossible in words to describe how bad traffic is around DC, especially in Norhtern VA. Depending on how far south he moves, his commute could easily be 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Accidents? Forget about it.
If your buddy can detune his car, he should be able to pass. Everybody plays the game (except me). Tune for the ragged edge on the street, then spend a day geting it back together for emmissions inspection.

Give him my condolences.

I lived in Arlington for 3 years and used to get my GN to pass emissions with an emissions chip when I was running blue tops and not a whole lot more. Was a pretty tough test, but at least 5 years ago they didn't put it on a roller.

Traffic is terrible and your friend should think very carefully about how exactly he is going to get to when choosing a place to live. The metro system is good and a decent alternative to driving if he is living in a near suburb.

His Plans are to Live in MANASSIS VA. & Take the VRE into DC.
His Vette is an 82 & all stock. I told him to keep the NH plates on as long as possible. I think you have 1/2 year before you need to swap registrations.
