i ran into a smiliar problem myself when the car broke down in my driveway from coming homw from the beach. it died and i had no power to nothing. So check the grounds @ the block the small ground from the battery to the inner fender and the ground strap from the back of the intake to the firewall ( it's a braided flat wire. Then for ****s and giggles check and clean all the connections @ the starter. ( thats where my problem was at)

wierd thing is when i wiggle wires behind the radio the scanmaster shorts out. But i didnt check the light, darn. But those are small gua. wires.

check the wiring that runs down in the console for the shifter lights. thay are known to break into and short out.

That fas the first thing I did. The counsil is ot right now, there was a piece rubbing but I taped it up and it is still doing it.

I did not see a ground strap from the intake to the wall. Just from the trans to the wall and the head to the wall. Although it has been fine for the 2 years Ive owned the car.

Guess Im ganna start checking grounds and leads to the starter. I did notice bare wire going into the starter, but it is not touching anything.

Did a draw test on the battery, only dropped to 11V, said it was weak, but I think that is fine, if I remember right 9.6V and below is no good.

Ok new info. After messing around for an hour or two I traced it down to a location. The short is running through my trans. I can move the shifter slightly, and see an arc on the trans where the shifter cable attaches. I can hear it grounding through my floor shifter too. So the dilema is WTF is going on here. I have a strap going from the trans to the firewall. I dont know why this is happening. Wierd thing is when my cable started to act up, soon after this electrical problem came along. I wonder if and how they are related. Too wierd, thats all I have to say.

I can't even think where the power would be comming from to be going through my tranny. Oh and FYI, the tcc plug is disconnected too.

from what I could see no. Maybe I should remove the coil pack for better view. If I remember right the only wires running down by the trans if for the tcc right. Thanks 6

Now that I think about it maybe that is why my tach is not responding hhmmmm

what it sounds like to me is the shifter cable is providing a ground to the body. you need to start looking at all the grounds from the engine to the body and from the battery to the block. and from the battery to the inner fender.

the negative cable could have some corrsion on the inside causing some problem and the cable appear to be in good shape.

more than likely where the neg cable bolts to the block has come loose.

The one thing I dont get is when the car is running and i shift gears it acts up the worse. The engine never stumbles or dies, but everything else loses power. Lights dim, blinkers dont blink, due to not enough amps. When i rev it up everything brightens up???

Ok good news and bad news. I cleaned all gorunds with a wire brush and the jump has vanished. Bad news is my tach is still not registering, only the first led lights up thats it. I dont know if when i was messing around with wires I may have pulled it  .

On a nother note, why does my scanmaster sometimes read 0mv at cruie and idle? I have a TT chip, not sure if it goes into closed loop idle or not. Also the higher the blm or int numbers the righer it running right? My blms are usually 128 and int 148. I dont understand if long term fuel curve is normal why my int nubers are so high?

Hey meant to do this earlier but forgot. I just want to thank everyone one this forums and website for being so cool. It is great to see everyone try to help one another. This country need to take example from this site. Thanks to all. :D
