I was pulling out of the school campus parking lot today and accelerated to about 3/4 throttle....I looked down and noticed the knock reading go up to .7 so i let off. (it was rainy, i sometimes get small amounts of knock when its really wet outside)

Now, i'm just taking it easy idling up to a stop light when the scanmaster starts showing erratic knock readings: 2 degrees.....1.7degrees......47degrees (!)

I switched through the modes and noticed all of the readings were jumping around. I didn't know what was going on so i pulled over and shut the engine off thinking maybe that would fix it.

When i turned the car back on the SM was still acting crazy and then it just went blank, nothing.....i just bought the scanmaster about 6 months ago...any idea what could cause this?

ALSO.....about a month ago the SM was giving a malfunction code, 13 i believe. So i bought a new o2 sensor.
I put off installing it for about a week and then the code went away......

Are these at all related??

How is the car running while the freaky scanmaster readings. Try to reseat the eprom and reset the ECM. Could be a bad ECM.

This had happened to me alot since i use spade crimps that plug into the power and the diagnostic slot. The connections get loose sometimes, and when this happens your SM will go buggy on you as it makes contact and looses contact in cycles.

MAke sure all you connections are very secure, especially the one that goes to the diagnostic plug. You probably can see the SM go crazy if you pull and put in the wire on the plug quickly. Also if your SM looses the diagnostic connection it will shut off.

it was the power wire....
i was checking the connections and the wire just fell out. Rewired it and it works great now.

thanks for the replys
