I was talking to bison and I guess i should go re read what he was telling me, very knowledgeable person.

Anyways, it sounds like some of you guys lock the converter, and keep it locked through shifting?? I always thought you get into third, then you would lock the converter? Do you lock it up right after the launch or what?

I wait for a second or two into 3rd. There prooved to be way too much bog at the 2-3 shift to lock in anytime in second. For avoiding the pitfalls of the huge 2-3 rpm drop bogging things down, you'd need to be making a lot more HP than I was and spinning something close to 6000rpm at the shift point.
I was only running mid 11's so it severely hurt my times and mph locking before the 2-3 shift. Maybe if the TCC clutch isn't 100% efficient it would slip enough to allow this. Unfortunately I'm running a 7 disc. It is very unforgiving at a 100% efficiencey when locked.

I only lock it in 3rd. Trans guy says locked shifts are a good way to break hard parts.

Are all billet parts necessary for WOT L/U in 3rd. What about through shifts?

Thanks

depends on the power of the car .. mid 11 car we locked it at the line for YEARS .. now its making a little more power high 9s/ low 10s and we just lock it up once we are in 3rd  oh ya.. we do have all the good parts in there now :p

I literally got my car back from Jimmy's Trans and the guy in front of me snapped the input while locking in 3rd and it was a low 11 car.
So I got one and recommend it if you plan on locking it on 11's and lower.

Hey Dave do you have a before and after time slip from your track lockings?
I personally think the Precisions lock ups are a tad loose and the end of 2nd gear locking would help by 1mph over just third. I might try it if no time slip shows up about this theory and plan on shifting around 5600-5800.

That was my Buddy Dave's car. DOH!
That thing locks up tight when it locks. Pulls it down hard!

I like my PTC non-lock though. Loose as a goose at the line but then it couples hard when you move. My 2-3 shift MPH went from 55mph with the Precision to +70mph with the PTC. And only 7.5% slip through the traps.
