So I was attempting to remove the steering wheel on my 87 GN to send it in and get the steering wheel rewrapped. So I get my allen wrenches and attempt to remove the screws . Why won't these d@mn things come out?! All they do is round off the inside of the allen screws?! I'm at my parent's house because my dad has tons of tools, so I go ask him if he knows why these weird screws won't come out. So he comes out and I tell him that I can only get two of the screws to move and the others seems to be stuck or something. So he says "Well maybe only two are real..." So chalk that one up to experience.

That's funny... I don't know how many times tire shops had to buy me new center caps for my 93 Z-71 because their "techs" thought that the fake looking nuts were real:D

Once its rewrapped, just round out the 3 and 9 o clock screws so they all match.

Ooops, and as I recall those rings don't come cheap:eek:

If you break it or screw it up just get the billet one from Kirbans. Mine was broken in half when I got the car and I got his metal one. It looks exactly the same as the old plastic one but wont break if its to tight. I think it only costs about $40 too.

gbodyparts.com has saved my a$$ many times with situations just like that. :D

I'm glad I'm not the only one who did this! :D

Yeah I did order one of Kirban's.

I did the same thing a few years back:D

I would have done the same thing but I remembered reading an article in GMHTP about changing the wheel and it mentioned the fakes
