Wanted: ATR dual exhaust instructions

Wanted: ATR dual exhaust instructions, just wondering if they will offer any special tips to make the kit fit any better than what I've ended up with.

Having problems the the y-pipe hitting the floor and getting the tail pipes to line out out back with the holes in the frame. Wondering if the instructions note exactly how I should be doing the hangers at the mufflers ie-drill new holes for hangers or use the existing ones? This is an ATR system for GNX and it's pretty tight out back as well.

ATR has hangers welded to the exhaust...so all you do is slide 'em into the existing rubber body hangers.

The exhaust I have only has the L-brackets off of the tailpipes to the frame behind the rear wheels, thanks

Are you sure it's ATR and not Hooker?

Hey Byron,

Just a suggestion:

Try installing it from the back end towards the front. What I mean is attach your exhaust tips first....then your pipes over the axeles and into the pit bulls......keep working towards the front. I know this is what they recommend when installing the Pypes Exhaust Systems.
Perhaps it will work on the ATR system too?

I bought a used Stainless Steel 2 1/2" ATR system with Pit Bulls several years ago. I ended up taking it to a shop that specializes in exhaust / muffler work....they build custom systems too!.

Good thing I did, cause just like you, mine didn't fit very well. They had to cut and tweak one of the pipes downstream of the cat. Y connection to get the system to lay flat.....also had to cut and re-bend the drivers side exhaust from exiting muffler to exhaust tip cause it was hitting the gas tank.
They also cut off the ATR's attachment brackets near exhaust tips....as they didn't line up (reason being however they started from the front back). They ended up welding in some new muffler attachments to the back side of mufflers and also to the exhaust tips. They said that this system was heavy and needed the support to effectively support the weight.

They finally got it done, but cost a few buck$ in the process. I must say that I am very happpy with this exhaust system though. Well worth the hassles and money.

When I installed the ATR dual 3" on my Daughter's T way back when, I remember having to cut about an inch and a half off the leading end (where it goes into the muffler) of each tail pipe to get things to fit nicely. Didn't have any issues when installing the dual 2.5" on my 86 many many years ago. I'm on my 3rd and LAST set of mufflers.

Hey Dave, ya you are right on the money, the drivers side tail pipe is the one giving me the most trouble, dolly'd lightly on the tank crease to make some room. This is an old (20 year old ATR) system that was originally on my car when I bought it and was pretty much falling off, one broken L-braket, both of the L-brackets were scabby so I manged to cut them off and smooth and polish to tails, will likely have to fab up some new 3o4 L-brackets and re-attach as it doesn't seem like the muffler hangers are going to hold everything still enough. Currently the exhaust is just hanging loose, waiting to get the dp and test pipe in to see where they want to push the Y pipe either forward or back.
