I have a 10 year old amana top loader washing machine. It is leaking from around the plastic tub. Is it worth looking into or just scrap it. I thought it was the drain hose but its leaking from above the hose.

Last one I had like that got traded along with $125 for a good working used maytag. Unless you just are into learning new things and have the time, I'd move it along. Since then, 4 or 5 years, we went ahead and upgraded to a new scratch n dent front load Samsung. While I don't do laundry I believe in having good tools and equipment. The wife likes it. And keeping her happy helps keep me happy.

I had something like that happen. I though the tub was damaged. IIRC it turned out to be an alignment issue...
I'd look at a repair before replacing.. These are relatively simple machines and Amana is a brand that has parts support... You can probably get away with fixing for not too much cash. If not, well then go buy a cheap used one or some fancy new energy star units and see if you can qualify for the tax rebates.

Could be the pump. Theyre plastic and when they wear out, they leak. Ive fixed a few of them. There are a lot of good online resources for doing this kind of stuff.

Sorry to pirate a thread but has anyone ever fixed one that "rebalances" the load with a gigantic bang while spinning? Mine will go into spin cycle and if the load is off balance, it stops itself so abruptly the machine literally shifts on the floor. But from then on it is fine. Sometimes it does it even when there is no out of balance condition. Drives me nuts.
