i recently added a new up-pipe and down pipe and while doin so i noticed that my factory wastegate rod is as short as it can be. i thought the shorter the rod the more boost? does that mean that my car is pushing out max boost? i have a boost gauge but havent hooked it up, i know the stock gauge is inaccurate but under wot the gauge goes all the way up as far as it can go and at high rpms the car starts hesitating and popping.

If I were you I would putting in the boost guage to see how much boost the car is making and to monitor boost levels, or you run the risk of popping a head gasket like that. The car should also have a scanmaster or some scan tool in it if your going to be doing WOT runs with it at those boost levels.

A stock waste gate actuator is not adjustable. This means the the rod on the waste gate acruator does not have any threads nor any ability to change the lenght. On an adjustable waste gate actuator the shorter lenght of the rod means more boost. Get a knock gauge or a scan tool ASAP. Brad

i understand its not adjustable but it seems its the shortest it could possible be any shorter it would not attach to the linkage since its so short i even had to loosen the wastegate bolts on the turbo to get it to fit on. i saw a article how to make you stock rod adjustable on gnttype but there site hasn't been working.

I have a stock one which I can measure the rod if you want me to. Let me know. Brad

yeah if u dont mind that would work i just wanna make sure im not overboosting i dont wanna blow up anything

The stock waste gate actuator rod is exactly six and three quarters of an inch long. This measurement is from the rod leaving the nut by the actuator to the end of the rod. I have a new TA33 turbo waiting to install and Limit Engineering changed this actuator to an adjustable one and they shipped to me the same way-six and three quater inches long. Hope this helps-Brad

On My Car I Just Drilled Another Hole In The End Of The Rod To Shorten The Stroke- Picked Up About 7 Lbs Of Boost This Way And It Works Fine

mine measured 7 3/4 inch long... got the boost gauge hooked up at 1/2-3/4 throttle around 4,000 rpms the boost hits 20lbs! dont even wanna push it full suprised it didnt blow up yet

Woah !!!!

Be careful !!!!

It doesnt take much to pop your motor if you have no boost guage or scantool. Ya gotta be real careful when hammering it.

I got an alky kit w chip. I stll get a lil knock here n there but its much less then before. Go easy on your turbo too - how many miles on it ? Is it orig ? Those darn bearings need oil bad and make sure you cool it down after - dont just shut it off....I run it for about 5 mins.

124,000 miles on motor and pretty sure on turbo but not positive, just ordered an adjustable wastegate rod so i can turn it way down
