Am new to the world of turbo Buicks and could use some info. I would like to know the pros and cons of running a hose straight from turbo to wastegaate as compared to using the wastegate solenoid. any info appreciated Bernie Steffen zstef@mchsi.com

Well....unless you're gonna put something in between the turbo and wastegate...like a boost bleeder/controller, I wouldnt suggest deleting the wastegate solenoid; without it there is no means of boost control....which = new head gaskets.

Thats called "tuner style", and is pretty common. You will probably have very low boost like that with a regular accuator. A heavy duty accuator and a bleeded valve inline will be a good set-up.

Low boost if he hooks the vacume line straight from the turbo to the wastegate  Last time I did that my car hit over 20 lbs at 3 quarters throttle, with the stock actuator.

Well, you must have done something a little different. You see, 100% pressure from the compressor housing to the accuator makes the wastegate open at it's earliest possible time, and you will get low boost. The more air you bleed, the less pressure to the accuator and you get more boost. Think about how a manual boost control works, or even how your stock solonoid bleeds off air. If you pull off the line to accuator, or have a BIG hole in a vac. line, then you will get too much boost.

You have it backwards. No problem.

Boost control

Just to clearify things a little better. This car is strictly a street car. Stock form and not a racer. When I rebuilt the motor and put everything back together I had way too much boost. Couldn't figure out what was wrong so tried the straight line way. As is 12 lbs boost. I think if I adjust actuator rod I could raise it if I wanted to but I am satisfied the way it is. Thanks for all your info and comments. Bernie Steffen Zstef@mchsi.com
