i dont want to sound like a jerk,but im new to turbos,and i was wondering what a wastegate is and what it does,i know where it is on the car,and how do you adjust it to give more boost
 
Well...in short, a wastegate is a vacuum operated device that uses an 'arm' running to your turbo. his arm is attached to a lever that has a 'puck' inside the turbo itself.

To prevent 'overboost' or frying the turbo (too high of compressor wheel RPM's) the puck bleeds exhaust pressure off (around or past the wheel) to prevent the turbo from spinning too fast - which is how the turbo spins - exhaust gasses.

If you have an adjustible wastegate, then all you have to do is undo it from the lever on the turbo and turn it to make it shorter or longer to adjust boost pressure up or down.
