water+meth=milk?

ok i had about 1/4 of a tank full of methanol (in razors kit) and i added distilled water to bring it up to about half. i looked at it the next day and it is a milky white color. is this normal?

Water and methanol is a no-no. Methanol is hygroscopic so it attracts moisture. This causes bad performance so I would drain that stuff before it doesnt work like it should and you know what that means

Windshield washer fluid is water plus methanol so it doesnt freeze in the winter. So mixing water and alcohol shouldnt be an issue.

Now what probably happened is the alcohol in your tank probably had a reaction to the water being added. Why??? dunno. Maybe its the type of methanol your using?

If your going to mix, do so in a separate container.

The system works great on straight alcohol. Why mess with it?

In a pinch for alcohol..go to a hardware store and get some denatured.

Water and the common alcohols methanol, ethanol, and isopropanol, are all completely miscible - you can go from 0% water to 100% and never get separation into two phases. In this case I wonder if you had some oil in the alcohol as a lubricant? If so, it will drop out of solution if the water percentage gets too high. If you give it some time it should change from a milky suspension into a thin layer floating on top of the water/alcohol. Water is effective at suppressing detonation, so if you just want to run a little more boost it works well. Methanol as a fuel makes more hp than gasoline so if you want to make max power run straight methanol and lots of it. Assuming you don't have the boost and timing cranked way up (since you were adding water) I'd just run it. Or add more methanol until the oil redissolves. Or both .

only reason i added distilled water is beacuse my tank was running low and it was late friday night. i was out roaming the streets...lol.
water and meth is a no no?! it should never be an issue unless the meth or water is not pure, which is probably what happened in my case.

I was just reading this earlier when I was thinking about using the RC car fuel.
