I will like to know what techniques people are using to get a perfect seal on there water pump... should i install a thin bead of sealant on the one side of the gasket or on both sides...

I use Permatex #2 on both sides of the gasket,i spread it on thin instead of a bead. I also use loc-tite on the bolt threads for the water pump pulley when i reinstall it on the pump.

It may be over kill but i don't have any leaks and i only had to do it once. ;)

Also as cheap as the water pumps are use a new one if it isn't. :D

Permatex and no gasket on the pump. Sealant on the bolts.

Sealant on the bolts, and glue the gasket to the pump. Then put grease on the side of the gasket that goes to the timing cover. This will allow the gasket to seal and if you have to remove it later it won't stick so there's no scraping.
