I just picked up a used Dutt neck IC from a board member. It definately needs repainting, but is in pretty good shape. The neck is welded on solidly but has a pretty substantial bead on it. I'd like to knock that bead down a bit (flush, if possible). Any opinions on if I could file/grind and sand this down without weakening the weld?

If the penetration of the weld is done right you can grind the surfaces flush and remove the bead. This should not effect the weld unless there is porosity that is not seen.

Not sure of what rod was used but something like 7018 is 4000lbs per square inch.

my welder did a really great job on my 2. They only needed minimal grinding. I also ported the dutt neck where it has the sand cast ruffness. and of course painted it flat black to look stock.
