I am wanting to weld in a oxygen sensor bung and have seen there is a certain distance (approx 12") from the elbow it should be put. Problem is, I can't take off my downpipe, it's welded solid to the test pipe. I can put it in one spot that I can weld all the way around, approx. 4-6" down the pipe from the exhaust elbow. Will this give me correct reading when I am tuning the AF ratio with a hand held LM-1 tuner?

Best to install under the car, near the test pipe. You stil can weld it on in the 10:00/1:00 position. Too hot 4" from the turbo.

It will probably be cheaper to "un-weld" your test pipe and install the bung in the down pipe just before it makes the turn to the test pipe than it will be to replace sensors and anything that might break do to erroneous readings.

I can weld it under the car toward the end of the downpipe with no problems...I can weld it on the side of the downpipe just before it goes into the test pipe. I wasn't sure if you could still get correct readings for A/F ratio with it mounted that far down...

Im gonna be doing this soon as well. The directions on the LC-1 set up state to weld the bung so the sensor sits upward 10 oclock to 2 oclock position to avoid moisture contact on the sensor. The 12" mark is at the very minimum to avoid the excessive heat.
Im hoping to do mine right before the dump pipe where there should be adaquate room there. You should be able to remove the down pipe with the test pipe but your gonna really need to raise the front end up. Ramps should do the job.

You could mount the sensor in the tailpipe if you wanted to and still get accurate readings. As mentioned before, it is best to mount anywhere at or above the 10 and 2 position.
