As a son inheriting a car from my Dad (hopefully NO time soon). And a Father with kids on my ass about my cars.
it was a good idea to pull the car. But i don't think that i would have passed it on the next kid. As stuff like that tends to hurt relation ships between siblings. Maybe Put it writing for the long haul, and just offer visitation visits on week ends and a few Father/Son- GN/GN cruise or track outings to re ignite the spark of love for the car.
Best of luck to your boy-that shipt is not easy to deal with at that age. I know.

my dad gave me my 86 about 6 years ago, dont ever plan on getting rid of it, best gift i could have ever asked for
